Guest Rob_Quads Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Last night I did the patch to my SPV to uncertify it. All went ok and I have since installed some apps. Today I was messing around with XTNDConnect and after trying a couple different versions my SPV has now got a bit screwed up. If I try and install anything it downloads the files onto the SPV but then when it normally says "Downloaded X Sucessfully, now installing xxx" it instead says "Downloaded Successfully. now installing XTNDConnect" but it only flashes up for about 2 second and then returns to the home screen. No matter what I try and install it always shows the problem above. If I use active sync to see what is on the phone but not installed the apps are there but not installed. I have tried removing all the installed apps off the phone and all referances to XTND still with no joy. i.e. even now I can't install the tennis game. Does anyone have any ideas or am I going to have to do another hard reset? (which i would rather not do)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Yeah, i've seen this. If you look in IPSMWindowsApplication DataInstall (off the top of my head), you will see the cab file for that, and probably a whole load more eating up your memory! Delete those files, and hey presto, problem solved. P PS You can't see these files from the PC, you need to use 'All Explorer'.
Guest Rob_Quads Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Cheers - i did a hard reset and then tried doing another install but it also cocked up - both times I have been trying to install an app developed for Windows CE - could this be the problem? (A neither Lotus or XTND have a demo for a smartphone) Now I just have ot wait for the activation kit to arrive for all-explorer.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Yes, the CAB file gets stuck in the above directory, and stops you installing stuff via ActiveSync (directly executing the CAB still works). Easy to fix when you know how ;) P

So far I haven't found any windows CE apps that work straight out of the box (some run but are unuseable due to resolution, control issues). I think they will all need at least minor tweaks to make them useable on the SPV.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 I've found the same. I had a text editor app installed, but you could only input text, and not edit it in _any_ way heh
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 If you look in IPSMWindowsApplication DataInstall (off the top of my head), you will see the cab file for that, and probably a whole load more eating up your memory! Found it but it's in IPSMWindowsApplication DataAppMgrInstall It was almost off the top of your head, maybe behind your ear? Only problem is my wee beastie is still slow there was nothing in install either ;)
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I am having this problem again but I have just uninstalled the all-explorer demo (to install the full version) but as a result I cannot use it to delete the required file. Is there another way of getting at it??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 No I'm afraid :) unless you want to do a hard reset
Guest Bazz Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 You can delete the dir. Next time you install a .cab file on your phone it'll be recreated. Note you cannot install via active sync until you've done a .cab install to create the dir.
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Can someone confirm the dir name. I have IPSMWindowsAppMgr (empty via activesync) IPSMApplication Date but not AppMgr or Install
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 The location you want is IPSMWindowsAppMgr the Install file is in AppMgr but you will not be able to see it via Activsync Be careful if you delete the AppMgr directory you will may also be deleting other apps you may have installed ie Rebound, ListPro etc. Barry is this what you meant? as I did not realise that the whole directory would be recreated :? .
Guest Bazz Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 The empty directory will be recreated, not any files in there. Yeah, it's a bit drastic, but slightly less drastic than a hard reset. I haven't tried it, but read it on another thread. There isn't much there for me at the mo anyway. A couple of .tmp files and that's it. Not sure how important they are. Hmmm... Maybe I shouldn't give out advice like this without knowning what I'm doing. Well at least not without a warning...
Guest frankwilliams Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 I did this the other day before Jacoch posted his smartphone explorer as i didn't have all locations explorer. rename the APPMGR directory and copied it to PC. then delete directory off spv. installed another cab directly on spv (not active sync) to recreate this directory. recopy some of the files back after installing another cab directly from your spv to recreate this directory if it makes you feel better! *I take no responsibility for monkeying your spv - mine works fine now. ** you really won't have to do this if you have smartphone explorer to delete the offending cab off your phone in the first place!

I have had exactly the same problem but am trying to install All Explorer! Any way around it without that piece of software?
Guest frankwilliams Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 http://www.binarys.com/sexp/smartexplorer.exe download this, copy it to your spv with Active sync and make a short cut to it in your start menu run the program and then delete the file you want to.
