Guest pippy Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 This has been asked before and someone put a step by step guide on how to open it and clean it, have you tried a search???
Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 hard to find.please give us the site.
Guest i_oWn_u Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I think thats a good choice to not send it to the HTC or a manufacturer I did when I had my smt 5600 and then brought it back cleaned but with a scratch down the middle of the screen. I now have a mpx220 can't be more happier but heres the link to clean it on your own.C500_de_dusting.doc
Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 thanks its like hard to do but it helps a lot. :D
Guest reehanj Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I had a real problem with dust settling behind the screen, so I rang orange and they sent me a new one the next day (rang them on good friday!) I have to say I was completely amazed by this level of service - am I the only one to think that orange cust services are absolutely fantastic? Anyway, the replacement cost me nothing, then I was browsing in Selfridges the next day and me eye fell on the beautiful form of the imate JAM - fell in love with it and bought it. Using the JAM at the moment, but if i use the C500, I think I'll always put it in a case to prevent dust getting in.
Guest i_oWn_u Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 welcome to da site :D case helps alot but dust gets everywhere. So you have 2 phones right now thats sweet
Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 yeah right thats sweet. Good for him.
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Hi guys. I know this issue's been raised a LOT in the past, so here's a short history: - Orange initially said it was a cosmetic fault, was therefore wear and tear, and wasn't covered by them. This annoyed lots of people, including me, who were left with no alternative but to rip their phones apart to clean it (hence my document linked above as to how to do it). - Later HTC started accepting phones back for tiny prices to refurbish them - thereby keeping your warranty. - Much later, a very nice man called Stevewooding campaigned, petitioned, and pestered Orange so much that they agreed to look into the problem with HTC. - Approx a month ago, Orange agreed there was a problem and that they would record it on their system as a fault and hence replace phones with the prob. Since then, a few people have still had the "Wear and Tear" line, but this is becoming less and less of a problem as more Orange people get clued up on it. In short, now Orange SHOULD be recognising dust as a problem but if the person you speak to doesn't just insist on speaking to a supervisor and do not be fobbed off until you get the supervisor to look into it. As for those of us who've already voided their warranty by taking their phones apart? Well, we knew what we were doing and haven't got a leg to stand on! :D
Guest i_oWn_u Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 wow 37 downloads and probablly more i only thought like 3 people needed it... if you have any questions with the instructions lemme know. becareful if you do that the warrenty is gone
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Trust me, I_Own_U, it seems like a lot more people want this (need this?) than you'd think. I've posted these instructions twice now and they've been downloaded over 1700 times! Either lots of people are out there stripping their phones apart, or we're just a bunch of nosy buggers! :D
Guest RoVal1972 Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 I also joined the club with dusted SPV.... :D Until now, this is the only "-" for this phone. If we could find another way to clean the screen, it would be great. It is not normal to break our phones into pieces... Best, V.
Guest i_oWn_u Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 that would be nice if we could find another way try and work on it.....
Guest gzrecoil Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 (edited) I wonder if this happens with the Audiovox SMT5600 as well :-P That's the model I have on ATT wireless. Hopefully not, I used to do this all the time with my nokias. In the doc. • Finally, switch on your newly de-dusted, out-of-warranty phone and notice that tiny hair that somehow got left in the very corner of the screen. Decide you can live with it. Then, ten minutes later, begin the whole process again because that little hair is really beginning bugging you! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SO TRUE ^^ That alllwayyss happens. Your the man. Nice tutorial. Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I_Own_U what kind of tool did you use in removing the top cover? Its kindda hard to remove. and could you give us a step by step procedure on how to remove it.Plsssssssss
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Mad_a, everytime I remove the top cover I always use my fingernail to prise it out a little by the power button. If you cannot get your fingernail under it, try pinching the cover and pushing it hard upwards (as in away from the headphone socket) and see if this gives any leverage to get your nail under it. This is the most difficult part of the procedure, and the first time I did this it took me half an hour. I got nowhere for 29mins 20 seconds, then it just popped off suddenly! Some people suggest knives to try to get under it (opinion is split between "very sharp" or "completely blunt") but I'm far too wary of my case looking like it's gone 12 rounds with Edwards Scissorhands. I had a bad experience with my SPV original that taught me not to prefer knives. Once you've got some leverage on the cover bit, you're looking to pull the top of it backwards (ie. away from the screen) while leaving the bottom of it (near the camera lens) where it is. Like I said, this is the trickiest bit of it and should take the most time. I recently broke one of the supporting lugs at the top of the cover while taking it apart (I think it was the sixth time I'd stripped it and got a bit too cocky). While the cover stays on fine, and it actually makes taking it apart easier, I'm not sure I'd recommend this as a proper approach!! :D Good luck man, and please take your time and keep your temper. You will be grateful in the end. :D
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 By the way, thank you for the kind comment Gzrecoil. It's nice to know my complete lack of sense in attempting this in the first place is appreciated! :D
Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 (edited) tnx now i have an idea on how to remove it w/out damaging my cover. tnx a lot. Edited March 31, 2005 by mad_a_22
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 No problem, my friend. Any other questions, post em up and the next person passing will see what they can do. Obviously, if you break the phone - you don't know me and I've never of you, OK? :D
Guest mad_a_22 Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 hahaha.ok. :D all your advice are deeply appreciated. and that temper thing dont wory ill try not to lose it.
