Guest ericweiner Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Using my SMT 5600 I tried to use the "Find networks" but the action never completed. When I used the "Select a Network" the list showed: At & t Wireless, 310410 T-Mobile Are these networks that are available for me to use? Is this phone unlocked? What is 310410? I just got the phone and I am intested in determining if AT&T has better coverage than Cingular. I see no option for switching to a cingular network ... can I even do this?
Guest martin Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 310410 is Cingular. The networks are identified by MNC+MCC (Mobile Network Code + Mobile Country code). You can setup the phone to display your choice of text for each MNC+MNC by adding the values using the registry editor. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames Click Values Menu - New Value - String Value Name=mcc+mnc ie 310410 Value Data=any text i.e Cingular I did a quick google and posted the first site I found for MNC codes. There may other sites listing these codes with details on which areas the MCC's relate to. http://www.dtn-info.de/html/mcc_ncc_netznamen.html
Guest Confucious Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 Those will be the networks it has found (ie you have reception on there frequencies) - it doesn't mean you can use them (except for emergency calls). If your phone is network locked then no amount of editing the registry will let you use another network and you won't be able to use t-mons network (except for emergency calls) without a t-mob SIM. But as ATT and cingular are now the same company you should be able to use the cingular network. Good luck.
Guest martin Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I believe it's a bit different for the US networks as they seem to have a special roaming agreement between themselves for certain areas so you can use another network at no extra cost. I don't know how it all works but maybe one of the US members has more information.
