Qtek, S100 - Turn off?

I love my S100, but wonder how I can turn it off. Turning it off, but remaining connected to my phone network is alright, but the manual says to hold for 2 seconds to really turn it off. I do that and the backlight turns off, I do it again and the backlight turns on. How do I get the machine to turn off without simply yanking out the batteries and risking the memory?
