Guest GazH Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Hi all, I bought THIS from expansys for my original XDA. It looks the same as THIS one for the jam. Has anyone used the XDA one on the MDA Compact...or do you know if it will be OK to use it on my Compact. Cheers Gaz
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 You do wonder though why the second one is listed as Jam-specific...
Guest GazH Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 You do wonder though why the second one is listed as Jam-specific... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly what I was thinking... And they both have different stock quantities  So it makes me think there may  be some difference Cheers Gaz
Guest MitchellO Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 It won't hurt your PPC. Just try it and see.
Guest GothTeddy Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 the difference is listed... the first is a 2.5mm ppc headset jack to 3.5mm headset socket and 3.5mm headphone socket (2.5mm 4pole -> 3.5mm 4-pole & 3.5mm 3pole) the second is a 2.5mm ppc headset jack to 2.5mm headset socket and 3.5mm headphone socket (2.5mm 4pole -> 2.5mm 4pole & 3.5mm 3pole) only difference is the size of the headset throughput, 2.5mm vs 3.5mm. there are plenty of 3.5mm headsets out there, but the ones supplied with ppcs are all 2.5mm - ie. the newer one lets you use your existing headset and your stereo headphones of choice at the same time. again, try it and see :D
Guest GazH Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Cheers all, OK tried it and it seems to be fine. One other question..... When you use the headphones you don't seem to be able to get the volume (through the headphones) down low. The system volume is one notch off mute, and windows media player seems to keep the same volume at anything under about 50%. It dowsn't even mute at 0%. I tend to listen to music in work and need to keep the volume down so I can hear if people are talking to me (I only have one earpiece in as well). Is there any way to do this. Cheers Gaz
Guest xvj00 Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 hi, i ordered the XDA version by mistake and it would not work on my jam, it is slighty longer and you only get the left ear with the jack pushed fully home. I got the jam version delivered this morning and it works fine.

As per my previous post the volume control (in WMP) doesn't do anything below 50% Although sound does come out of both ears on mine.... :?: Might have to order the Jam version tonight... Cheers Gaz
Guest mike-oh Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 (edited) Seems a bit pricey to me. Especially since they're only $15 in the US. We need some other UK firm to start selling them and drive the prices down! ** nudges someone from MoDaCo shop to buy a bulk quantity ** Would definitely be handy though! Guest En_croute Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Would a standard audio 2.5 jack to 3..5 socket work on the Jam/MDA ? Do you need to have a PCC specific item ? This is available for about £2.502.5jackto3.5socket.bmp
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 I use the one I got from the MoDaCo shop that I originally bought for my C500. It fits perfectly in the Jam socket unless I'm using a silicon case. I need to open up the hole a bit - thanks for reminding me :D

But i've no idea if the pin layout is correct. @Disco Stu, Is the pin layout correct w.r.t. the Jam on your one from the MoDaCo shop? Mike Edited March 29, 2005 by mike-oh
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Mike, I'm no electrician - you don't want me to take it apart, do you ?!? - but stereo reproduction is correct. The only slight problem is that it could be a tighter fit. I'm going to get the Expansys Jam adaptor and see how that compares. As an accountant though I can confirm that £2.50 is excellennt value :D
Guest mike-oh Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 (edited) No need to disassemble! :D Just wanted to make sure the ol' stereo was as it should be! Hmmm i wonder about the maplins one?! Edited March 29, 2005 by mike-oh
Guest RurouniJ Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 It should work. I got one from radioshack in the US (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=274-397) and with works fine. It only costs $4. Guest mike-oh Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Yeah i agree. However i'd only ever be using the adaptor if i wanted to plug my Jam into my amp so it would be stationary and not stressed. I wouldn't be too happy with that in my pocket!

Guest Disco Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Why not try different media players ? Mort Player is an excellent alternative with a very responsive volume control.
Guest GazH Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Why not try different media players ? Mort Player is an excellent alternative with a very responsive volume control. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cheers Stu I'll have a look at Mort Player. One thing I do like about WMP 10 is that you can sync with the desktop to get album covers etc on screen on the MDA (I know its not much but I really like that feature). Do you know if you can do similar with mort.. At the end of the day though if the volume works better I'll probably use something like Mort anyway. Actually, I nearly forgot...I've got Real player on my XDA....might install that tonight and see if its any better Thanks Again Gaz
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 It doesn't do album art. One of the great features of Mort Player is the 'big buttons' skins though.

Guest adey_london Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I've got the 99p one from Maplin, works great but is huge. Gonna order the proper one from expansys....

My tip is to shortern your high street headphones by cutting or tieing so that you have a cool retractable unit with much better sound and the ability to make calls!
