I live in the uk and was wondering if anyone could tell me which is best between the c500 and the smt 5600? and whether or not the smt 5600 would be better if it is going to be used here in the uk? I heard it had a qvga screen and windows media 10, but regarding the settings for gprs and the net, do they work the same way as the e200 and c500 in the sense that you can fully edit them to your own needs? Reason for me asking this is because I'm on o2 pay as you go and need something flexable and versatile. Thanks

They are both the same phone, the only difference is that they have

network specific software on them and the Audiovox has WM10.

Both phones would need to be SIM unlocked so for price you may as well go for

the Orange on PAYG unless you are looking at secondhand.

[i will be going second hand because I either want the c500s (silver) or the smt 5600. was told though that the 5600 wouldn't work over here in the uk due to the frequency they have built in...where as the c500 will work here as well as over in the us. Unlocking is not a problem as I will go through the network. It's simple, and works and might be 20 pounds but it's permanent. Do you know about the frequency differences of the two?

The SMT 5600 is GSM 850/1800/1900

The CPV C500 is GSM 900/1800/1900

The US networks use GSM 850 and GSM 1900.

If you are using O2 in the UK then the SMT 5600 might be a problem as O2 and Vodafone mainly use GSM 900.

Orange and T-mobile are totally GSM 1800.

Hope that helps :D

Hi Martin...Thank you for the advice...I've just had a look at o2's website and it says they operate in the 900 and 1800 frequencies...but it didn't say what frequency in any given area. Do you think I'd be ok with an unlocked 5600? and if so, do you know if the internet settings would be the same as the c500? Thanks again. :D

The internet settings can be found in the settings repository in the Articles section of the site. The settings will be the same as any phone on O2.

sounds like a good one for me then...how do the phones decide what frequency to operate on? or is it automatic and if so, is there any differences between o2's 900 and 1800 frequencies that would limit the phones functionality in one way or another? Really appreciate your help guys. Thanks, Steve

You can set the phone to automatic but as martin said if you want O2 then you need to go for the C500

Ok...thank you... I thought if o2 operated both 900 as well as 1800 it would be ok but I don't know how they work...guess it would be easier as well getting the c500 unlocked rather than the 5600. :D Thanks again. Steve
