I have been experimenting with ActiveSync 4 and it seems it is now possible to sync music to your smartphone without requiring Media Player 10 on the phone. Target directories can be specified in media player on the phone or storage card. It's worth a quick look at the help file in ActiveSync as it outlines the new features.

I know it's not policy to post about leaked stuff so I can't post any links but I'm sure those who are keen can google and find it.

Let me know how you get on folks - I can't really test it well with a 16MB miniSD (still holding off till 1GB drop in price).

--On further investigation this might not be implemented as I thought. I can't get it working automatically. Can someone else with a larger card maybe give this a try?

sounds interesting. ive always thought that would be a good idea, so you can your playlist on the pc and then click "sync" while it does it in the background, instead of having to copy the files across manually...

How did you get ActiveSync 4 set up for automatic sync of your media files? I can't seem to find it under any of the settings for ActiveSync and the "set up sync" button on my pc's media player 10 is greyed out. I'm running WM2003 on my phone.

On further investigation I discovered that the settings had indeed been there before, and the auto sync was grayed out. However, since the French Orange ROM was released it works fine. I'm sure there's a post somewhere on modaco that tells you step by step how to 'modify' the ROM to install onto a UK device. It works fine on my non-unlocked phone and it's easy to change it all back to English.
