Guest p1tse Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 looking for a new trick phone, and this one seems to come out top from reviews. was thinking about the bigger brother with sliding keyboard, but a bit big in size. can some one give me some selling points of this phone on why i should get one, also how easy is texting without keypad? also where from, any good deals about? t-mobile on line don't show it? prefer lowish tariff thanks
Guest mike-oh Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Why? 'cos it's i-pod sleek, to hold it is to want it, copes with pretty much everything you throw at it application wise, stick in a decent size memory card and you've an excellent mp3/video player which fits snuggly in your pocket! Texting without keypad is ok. Needs two hands tho so it's impossible to text whilst walking etc. There are several ways to imput text....handwriting recognition, t9 and on screen keyboard to name a few. Wherefrom? Scancom or onestopphoneshop are the popular ones on here. Read around a bit about each in this section of the forum. The bigger brother is just that, bigger! I like the size of the Jam, it's nearly all screen! Mike
Guest p1tse Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 i'm on a slow 56k modem at the mo so searching is limited. but checked out onestopphoneshop good prices but all on t-mobile. i was wandering forexample alot of them do the first 3 or 6 months half price tariff and with higher tariff the phone is free, hence was wandering could i go for a free version with higher tariff and then change tariff after the half price deal finishes? going to check out sancom now also alot of them advertise it with co-pilot, does tomtom work on it etc. what do others use for sat nav? thanks
Guest p1tse Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 having looked at some new phones on the web, the nokia 6630 seems quite cool. BTW what's the compact like for games? i don't really want to use it for music etc. as i have MP3 player

It is about the same size as an iPod (almost exactly) but does so much more. I have a 1Gb card in there with movies and mp3 and it is superb! And your right about "to hold it is to want it". I saw one when I was in a computer shop, and 3 days later I had bought one! I sold off my iPAQ 4355 and SE T610 which I had paired together with Bluetooth for GPRS for an all in one that was not much bigger than the T610 itself! Texting without keypad is ok. Needs two hands tho so it's impossible to text whilst walking etc. There are several ways to imput text....handwriting recognition, t9 and on screen keyboard to name a few. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have no trouble using the T9 text input with one hand, and I am 15. I text (either MSN, email or SMS) when walking and have no problems. :D :D :D :D Go Get One!!!!!! :( :( :D :D
Guest MitchellO Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 And in respond to you Q about games, I have used several (including Anthelion, a 3d space flight sim) and they work fine. The only prob is that is is only 4 way, not eight way (ie. no diagonal movements). Great for stylus games (my fav is monopoly!).
Guest p1tse Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 cool, as i would like driving and sports games on. still need answering to changing tariff after the intial half price start up also on sat nav still need to ask myself what i need a pocket pc for, apart from it looks good
Guest p1tse Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 so need to test one of these, plus on my list nokia 6630 and Motorola A1000
Guest MitchellO Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 If you test it, you have made your decision. YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!!
Guest Chaser81 Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 (edited) My mum has a 6630 and I have played with an A1000, none of them compare. Go get a Jam now. Seriously, no excuses... And wash behind your ears before you go to bed. Edited March 30, 2005 by Chaser81

None of the current phones (other than the HTC Blue Angel) are of interest to me. They just don't do what the Mini does.

Guest MitchellO Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Just other students. :D Some of them stand around like lamposts! Hope that my new leather case will let me use it just as easy as when it is naked.
Guest p1tse Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 "My mum has a 6630 and I have played with an A1000, none of them compare. Go get a Jam now. Seriously, no excuses... Guest p1tse Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 "I believe you cannot change tariffs on o2 & vodaphone for 1st 6 months t-mobile is 11 months (12 month contract) " thanks 11 months for t-mobile, but surely they won't say no if you wanted to go higher. so it's a bit unfair say forexample your going abroad to work for some months and so won't be using the phone as much and still want same tariff.
Guest mike-oh Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 also feeling a bit dumb, but what's this washing behind my ears? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was some parental instinct in him coming out :D
