Guest Brainfire Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Hi all - Right, the SPV C500. Grrrr - I've enabled device lock, but don't know how to disable it again... any takers? Is there really no auto keylock on this thing either, as this is all I really want to use? I've also downloaded the alarm plugin after it took me nearly an hour to find the alarm on it (the fact that alarm isn't even mentioned in the handbook never helped matters), but how do I go about installing it? Thanks in advance :D

Guest ProviGuy Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 What I am still looking for is a lock that comes on the screen at power up..asks for a code...then continues to power up...that way another person could not use the phone or see my private data.

Brainfire - to enable/disable device lock: Start-->Settings(more)-->Security-->Enable/Disble Phone lock Regards, Paul Edited March 31, 2005 by sidebp
Guest bluesmudge Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 im gonna get pelted with tomatoes for this im sure - but don't any of you read your instruction booklets? I won't say too much becuase i've asked some stupid questions before and we all have to start somewhere - but there should be an extra rule here of **make sure it isn't in the handbook**
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Bluesmudge - TOMATO!!! Instruction books are not there as the first port of call. This is the classic difference between the sexes: Female - 1) Open box 2) Read instruction book 3) Pick up gadget 4) Use gadget Male - 1) Open box 2) Pick up gadget 3) Play with gadget - bonus points if you can get gadget to interact with other owned gadgets, or do something the maker didn't intend it to do. 4) Break gadget while trying to get it to do something maker didn't intend it to do. 5) Play with and fix gadget 6) Break gadget, quite badly this time, while trying to get it to do it's original purpose. 7) Spend time talking to mates, surfing web and playing with gadget to try to fix problem. 8) Hit gadget a few times. If this doesn't fix it, use a hammer. If this doesn't work, research getting a larger hammer. 9) Decide gadget wasn't great and move onto next gadget. 10) Throw away box (with instructions still unmoved inside) BUT keep gadget (or pieces of) in case you ever need it again.
Guest bluesmudge Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 As a techy male i agree - but still they could be pushinng other peoples threads onto the next page which may need attention. Besides things like adding the pin and removing the device lock are pretty basic things. im sorry to say this but i think you can really tell that Orange are aiming the C500 at the consumer market alot more than the older phones. which brings the question - Could windows ever become a fully main stream phone OS? Or will people become scared of their phones like they are of their computers? (working as network operater has removed my faith in users - so sorry if that offends)
Guest jporch316 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Brain fire - hold in the red button for auto key lock. - strangely this is not in the instruction manual

I have followed that but it keeps asking me for the old code first!! I have never had a code before. I entered 0000, says code is not matched...tried 1234...same thing...only got one chance left! Are these codes supplied by the phone company who I am with? Sorry for dumb questions! Cheers
Guest stunno Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 (edited) /pedant on Page 125 of the Orange SPV C500 manual Locking the SIM Card " ......enter your old PIN which is set to 1111 by default" Your Orange phone comes with a number of preset security codes Sim card PIN1 1111 Fixed dialling PIN2 1111 Call barring 1111 Lock code 12345 /pedant off :D Edited April 1, 2005 by stunno
Guest dozerz Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 from this thread i can assume theres no autokey lock without having to enter a code? just like the hold red key lock but auto?
Guest gasman Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 from this thread i can assume theres no autokey lock without having to enter a code? just like the hold red key lock but auto? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You assume wrong 8) The Orange manual is so poor nobody would ever figure this out without being told, but.. Start - Settings - More - Security - Enable Phone Lock Set the time delay to the time you wish for the keylock. Set the password to a single number (I use 0). The keypad will now automatically lock after the specified time and can be unlocked with two keypresses - the number you chose and the left softkey. Cheers, Martin
Guest jporch316 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 what a shame - you have to enter a password - is there a way to get this auto lock without the password oh - great spotting by the way - i never would have found that

Cheers, Martin <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it was in my manual. Although why you would set your password to one number? you could accidentally knock the lock off if the phone is in your pocket.
Guest argh Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Well it was in my manual. Although why you would set your password to one number? you could accidentally knock the lock off if the phone is in your pocket. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think that the idea was to get as close to an automatic version of the standard keypad lock as possible. That requires 2 button presses, as does this (although different buttons). If you're using it for security, have a particularly bumpy pocket, or don't mind a little more effort in unlocking, then make the password.
Guest jporch316 Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Ive been playing with this and noticed that if you enable the auto lock with password and then lock the keypad with the red button - after the delay period you still have to enter the password. I have now turned it off - its easier to use the red button!
