Guest monkeygadge Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Well chuffed this morning. My Mpx220 turned up in the post!! Fantastic!!!! What a phone! Love it! Played with it all morning. BUT Can't get the damn thing to connect to GPRS. It will make/take calls. Will send/recieve txts. I previously owned an Orange SPV E200 - so I thought i'd be clever and transfer the GPRS, Proxy, MMS, CSD settings from that across to the Mpx220. The only thing that I did not know from my SPV was the password in the Orange CSD WAP settings. Well it doesn't work. Bummer. At first I thought it was the MMS settings, but I noticed one small detail. On my Orange SPV (and also an Orange Mpx200) on my homescreen I have a white square with a G in it meaning that GPRS is available. On my new Mpx220 I do not have this little square. When I try and connect to the internet it will show a little G beside the signal strength bars, whixh I understand means that there is some GPRS packets being sent/received, but it flashes between that and the aerial icon for a few seconds and the warning message appears "Error - Unable to Connect, Verify you have network coverage and try again" Is this because the wrong password is in the CSD settings? If so what should be there? If not then can anyone help me out with this one? I love this phone but if I can't get my email it ain't much use to me.   :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 You'll need your password for email access but not for GPRS. Have you tried phoning Orange CS to make sure GPRS is enabled on your account ? That would be my suspicion given that you don't have the big G symbol. Either that or it's a signal fault where you are.
Guest monkeygadge Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 When I transfer my Sim card to my SPV E200 or my Mpx200, the symbol appears no problem. I can access email and t'internet. I have been using GPRS on that SIM for almost 15 months now. It has to be an issue with the phone. I've been through all the settings that you can change on the phone, so either the phone is incompatible with Orange GPRS, or I'm using the wrong settings for the Mpx220 compared to the Mpx200 & E200. Could it be because the Mpx220 is a quad band phone? Or does Orange GPRS only work if their own software is installed on the phone? :?:
Guest martin Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Oh well. it's not what I thought it was. I sounds like the phone is the problem and it's not completing a GPRS attach for some reason - very strange. All phones should work on all networks.
Guest whitestar Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 (edited) monkeygadge, just out of interest, where did you get your's from. I've seen a couple of web sites offering them for sale now with Vodaphone or O2 contracts but have been sligtly wary about buying, not knowing what firmware version they are etc. Edited March 31, 2005 by whitestar
Guest monkeygadge Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 It came from Hong Kong. I'm going to try hard resetting the phone and then I'm going to upgrade the firmware. Hopefully this will solve the issue. Fingers crossed.
Guest monkeygadge Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Right..... Check this out. Master reset. Great! now I have GPRS! but the phone is bloody chinese now!!
Guest monkeygadge Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Success! Master reset then Upgraded firmware to 1.3. (Cingular) thanks to Paraklas et al at this post: http://www.modaco.com/Motorola_Mpx220_ATan...201387-s40.html Cried  for 10min when the phone refused to switch on !?!?!?!?!?!?! Then for some reason it worked when I took the battery out for the third time!! Then I deleted the American Cingular GPRS settings etc and put in Orange and I can connect to the net. :D Unfortunatley I can't get the MMS settings to work properly. I can't send a picture, but when someone tries to send one to me, I can get the message, but the picture won't "download" to the phone????? Anyone got any ideas? :D
