Guest alan1302 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 We are trying to get an SPV C500 to check e-mails from yahoo and Gmail whilst it is not connected to the PC via GPRS. The GPRS settings are correct as we can connect to the internet with no problems. When we go to send/receive we get the connecting message come on and then that is all that happens. We have left it for miutes at a time and still nothing happens. If we then click to disconect the phone it says it is disconecting and then just gets stuck on that screen and the only way to get it to change was to turn the phone off and on again. Has anyone got any idea as to what is the problem with the phone and how we can sort it out? Alan
Guest alan1302 Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 I am just using the standard Yahoo POP3 settings that I use for Outlook Express. They are just your username and pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk. The port settings seem to be correct and the same as Outlooks. Have you any ideas? Alan

Guest alan1302 Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 I use Gamil as well...what settings do you use with that on your phone? Alan
Guest markgamber Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 FWIW, here's what I do: The User Name is only that....not [email protected], just username. Whatever password, no domain. The server type is POP3 using whatever network gets you out on the air. Incoming mail server is set to pop.gmail.com, outgoing is set to smtp.gmail.com:465 (that's with a colon four sixty five at the end) and both checkboxes (authentication and SSL connection) are checked.
Guest philco Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005  I keep getting "Unable to connect. Verify your Dial-ip or proxy settings are correct and try again". I have GPRS set up as I can browse the web with IE or Opera. Any ideas anyone? FWIW, here's what I do: The User Name is only that....not [email protected], just username. Guest pjam001 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 The smtp server needs to be that of your mobile phone company. i.e. smtp.orange.net The pop3 server is your usual one. You then should be able to set a return address which is your email address. This means emails are sent via your mobile companies server but when the recipient replies it goes to your email address which you can then pick up from the pop3 server. This is to stop spamming, or something like that. Hope this is what you were having a problem with, or i've misunderstood.
Guest philco Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Not Sure. It looks like Outlook is failing to fire up GPRS to connect via the internet possibly. Will have to discount the orange thing first though. Haven't used that email address for a while.
Guest pjam001 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Just to confirm, the pop3 server and reply address are for your regular email. The smtp server needs to be the mobile phone companies.(At least with orange it is)
Guest Mr.Clark Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 (edited) Just to confirm, the pop3 server and reply address are for your regular email. However, it still seems to be picking up 265 messages, dispite only showing me ones for the previous 3 days :?: I am using an SPV C500 on Orange. Edited April 22, 2005 by Mr.Clark

Haven't used that email address for a while. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you want to use Pop3, gprs connection will just not do. you have to get the internet connection. usually the APN is "internet" check with your provider. Yahoo pop3 works just fine. Also your provider's smtp will probabily require authentification, therefore smtp.yahoo.com on port 568 is better.
