Guest popanot Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 (edited) Does anyone have experience with calling Cingular - USA for the unlock code? I just called Cingular today (I'm an AT&T customer) and reached a fairly knowledgable CSR. He noticed I wasn't in the Cingular database and asked if I was an AT&T customer. I told him I was, and then he suggested I call them for support issues. I then told him that I think I needed to talk to someone at Cingular because I had a Cingular MPx220 and I wanted the unlock code so I could use it on the AT&T network (I also told him I travel extensively). He then proceeded to ask me questions like - what the IMEI # of the phone was, my phone contact info., and where I got the phone. I told him the phone was given to me as gift (and it was). He seemed fairly honest and said he submitted the request to the unlocking group and that it usually takes 2~5 days to get response back. He said he would call me back when he had the unlock code. Is this usual? He gave me no indication he was doing anything other than submitting a request for the code, but after thinking about it, he may have been asking me those questions to look up and see if it was a stolen phone. I mean, he didn't tell me they had a policy against giving out the codes or anything and didn't really put up any resistance to my request for the code. Well, I'm hoping he is just getting the code, but if anyone else has experience with this sort of call to Cingular, I sure would like to hear what you think and how your call/request went. Guest scepterr Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 That sounds quite normal. I went through the same process when I wanted an unlock code for my SE T610 on T-Mobile USA.
Guest RicKaysen Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Sounds routine. I got the unlock code from Cingular through e-mail as promised in a few days.
Guest nikjensie Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Since I'm in the process of purchasing an MPX220 locked to Cingular, this interests me... would you please let me know if it all worked out and you got the code?

It's now Wednesday and still haven't heard back yet. Keeping my fingers crossed... I'll let you know if I hear anything.
Guest riven Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Although I did not have to unlock my Mpx220, I did have to unlock my PocketPC when I travelled overseas. Like everyone said above, those are typical questions. They have to know the IMEI number so that they can unlock the correct phone. I imagine its based on some algorithm as opposed to a general unlock code for everything. It took just under a week to get the code back via email, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. They cannot legally refuse your request to unlock a phone from their service...they may give you some grief about it, but they can't refuse you. ::cheers::

Guest Grunt11B Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 It took quite a while for my unlock code. I had sent an email to the Cingular unlock email address, available somewhere else in this forum, and received my code within about ten days. However, I sent multiple requests for the unlock code for my wife's phone...and I haven't received one reply. We're in the process of picking up a new phone for her. So, I'll try again in a bit. My wife is Canadian and we spend a good deal of time in CA. We use our CA SIM when we're up there so everything is local instead of LD.

His father wasn't under contract so they agreed to give him the code, said they'd call him in 5 business days. 4 weeks and no response. I actually partnered with another supplier and now I can get you unlock codes for your mpx220 for 35.00 email me if you want to buy the codes, the code is emailed to you usually within 5 days.
