Guest skaramanga Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Recently I have installed a few apps on my C500. Photo Contacts, Clearvue Suite, World Time, and an Apple themed homescreen, with Smartmonitor plugin installed. All is very cool but now when I try to turn it off it gets stuck on a Shutting Down screen. I have to remove the battery to turn it off properly now. Does anyone know what apps might cause this? Must be one of the new ones, but don't know how to find out what. Thanks, Skaramanga

Thanks, Skaramanga <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This happened on one of my phones for ages, with no additional software added. Synced it via BT one day in preparation to 'clear storage' and it stopped having the problem. No explanation unfortunately.
Guest waroffice Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 i get the problem all the time, dont know what it is have uninstalled most apps (all but legend by redshift and smart explorer). i sync with BT all the time that does nothing for me
Guest skaramanga Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Yeah, it happened me a few months ago, not long after I got the phone, for a few days, then the problem disappeared. Still got it now though.
Guest bigfootpete Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Why do you shutdown? Just leave it on all the time...
Guest Scream Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 i would say it's because with the amount of stuff on the phone it's memory gets very low, and just freezes. Every now and then i just have to turn my phone off completely and let it startup to clear the mem totally. Even though the phone says it's mem is ok, you can tell by the reactions of the phone, they become very slow, or just stop altogether. Try cleaning all apps and building it back up i would recommend.
Guest bigfootpete Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Isn't there a free app' out there that's frees' the phone memory? Or you could use the task manager app'
Guest skaramanga Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 I active-synced last night (via USB), and now the problem is gone! Didn't uninstall anything. Strange. O:)
Guest jporch316 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 I would recommend rebooting the phone once a week or you start encountering windows type errors. Remember - NASA use Dos on all their space shuutles as the windows OS isnt stable enough. Apparently the longest a win 98 machine can stay on for without crashing is 90 days
Guest skaramanga Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Yeah, I would always turn it off and on to free up memory. Hopefully it keeps working ok. I think its generally far more stable than my old E200!
Guest skaramanga Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Win 98 is poor for reliability, XP is better though. Thats mad about the shuttle too #-o.

Thats mad about the shuttle too #-o. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mines just started doing this - I just get the splash screen when I shut down and thats it - it just sits there. I have to take the battery out to turn off and when I reboot, the clock and date have reset to factory default :??: I've not installed anything new recently....
Guest Priceyboy Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 There is a utility on a www.airfagev.com that allows you to end all non-system apps. There is a 10 second time limit and then the apps end or if you want to do it straight away then just click 'quit now'. Try downloading this, putting it on your c500 and using this program before turning the phone off. I do not know whether it stops your problem but give it a try. hope this helps, pricey

Guest jporch316 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Theres also an utility built in to the phone to close all running apps - its in ACCESSORIES and is called TASK MANAGER. Got mine on speed dial 9 - just press and hold and up it pops! Also theres this thread where the date and time keeps resetting itself http://www.modaco.com/C500_flips_out_and_c...me-t231928.html
