Guest martin Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 You can get O2 settings here :D http://www.modaco.com/MS_smartphone_setup-t201047.html

Access point: (WAP APN) User name: (username) Password: (password) and same for this what is WAP APN and do i just make up a username and password
Guest martin Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Look at the top of the MS smartphone setup post. Settings By country and Settings by Network :D
Guest cyberbax Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 ok i found the UK o2 link on that but i dont want to connect thru GPRS. how do i make it connect thru WAP??
Guest martin Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 You can have the WAP service over the GPRS network (packet switched) or WAP over the GSM network (circuit switched). Create a proxy connection 193.113.200.195, port 8080, type=HTTP. Create your dialup conenction (CSD WAP) and GPRS connection (GPRS WAP) Then set 'WAP connection to either O2 CSD WAP or O2 GPRS WAP In Internet Explorer , untick 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select network: WAP network'.
Guest cyberbax Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 i need it over the GSM network is that the CSD one not the GPRS one???
Guest martin Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 i need it over the GSM network is that the CSD one not the GPRS one??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yep, Just create the dialup connection :D The GSM dialup connection is very slow though at 9.6Kbit/s.
Guest cyberbax Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 yeh but i get 300 mins of wap free i dont think GPRS is free. ok so far in data connections - Internet connection - o2 csd wap WAP connection - o2 csd wap in internet explorer unitcked auto detect and WAP network selected
Guest martin Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Are you able to download internet pages now ?
Guest cyberbax Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 no it trys to find site, then eventually comes up saying unable to place call.
Guest martin Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 no it trys to find site, then eventually comes up saying unable to place call. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Strange. That's not even making a connection :D These are the dialup settings for O2 Genie and O2 standard prepaid SIMS. Try whichever one one you haven't used yet. Note that the Domain option in the diaup settings must be blank. Dial Up connection Description: O2 CSD WAP Phone Number: 447712927927 User name: o2wap Password: password Domain: Dial Up connection Description: O2 CSD WAP Phone Number: 447712927927 User name: geniewap Password: password Domain
Guest cyberbax Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 ok i have both the Internet connection and WAP connection (in Data connections) set to o2 csd wap. 2 questions bout 02 csd wap what does it connect to? (The Internet or WAP Network) and when i put the password in as "password" and click done, when i got back in to it, there are way too many stars (*) to say "password" in internet explorer connections i ahve auto detect off and select network on WAP Network
Guest martin Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 yep, it's normal to get star characters instead of the password and it's always the same number of stars regardless of how many characters are in your password. OK here are the settings from start to end :D Settings-Data Connections Menu-Edit Connections Proxy connections Menu-Add Create proxy connection Description: WAP Proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP network Proxy (name:port): 193.113.200.195:8080 Type: HTTP Username: Password: Done Done Create Dial Up connection Description: O2 CSD WAP Conencts to: The internet Phone Number: 447712927927 User name: geniewap Password: password Domain: In Settings - Data connections WAP connection: O2 CSD WAP In Internet Explorer, Menu-Options-Connections Untick 'Auto detect settings' Set 'Select network: WAP network' Try and access www.google.com in Pocket Internet Explorer. If you get 'unable to connect' then try changing the dialup settings. User name: o2wap Password: password
Guest cyberbax Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 ok did all that geniewap - said connecting symbol changed to 2 arrows, then unable to place a call o2wap - exactly the same! :?:
Guest martin Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Hmmm, I wonder if it's something O2 have done. I have an O2 prepaid SIM but I don't know where it is at the moment. I would try creating the GPRS WAP connection and see if they work OK. GPRS connection: Description: O2 GPRS WAP1 Connects to: The internet Access point: payandgo.o2.co.uk Username: payandgo Password: password GPRS connection: Description: O2 GPRS WAP2 Access point: wap.o2.co.uk Connects to: The internet Username: geniewap Password: password Just attach either of them to the WAP connection in Data connections and then test it by trying to access www.google.com
Guest cyberbax Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 (edited) the first one, the pay and go one, worked. it connected thru GPRS the symbol changed to a small G and connected to google the second one came up with a msg Unable to connect verify you have network coverage and try again and b4 you say it i had full coverage. the only problem is because it was GPRS it costed me at least now i know i want pay and go instead of genie Edited April 6, 2005 by cyberbax
Guest martin Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 I managed to find my O2 SIM :D I have a standard Prepaid SIM and tried the following Description: O2 CSD WAP Conencts to: The internet Phone Number: +447712927927 (and 07712927927) User name: payandgo Password: password There does seem to be a problem with O2 CSD WAP. I had connected and successfully downloaded internet pages on three occasions using both national and international codes before the 7712927927 but it took approximately 30 attempts of re-dialling into the WAP service. Most times it seems to connect at O2 and I know this because I'm being charged for the connnection but the phone is stuck at 'Connecting' because it's unable to download any data. Every so often I can get a connection that does allow downloading. This is no doubt a problem at the O2 end. GPRS WAP work OK all the times tested it. It's not a very reliable service I'm afraid :D
Guest usdiver Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 [Hi Martin, cyberbax, hope you guys don't mind me intruding as I'd like to help here if possible. Martin you probably remember me...and I've had this problem myself as I know someone that has a couple e200's and I've played around with the 200, original spv, and now I'm getting a c500 to be cracked next. The o2 sim card with 300 texts and 300 wap minutes is the one to use as that's all I will use. I have found that by doing a hard reset and then starting fresh is the easiest way for me. I will also say that for me, NONE of the settings in the repository would work...that is, until I decided to "trick" the phone into thinking it was still on orange. When you first go into the settings and find the "dial up connection", "proxy" and gprs (both gprs and mms)...instead of deleting the orange settings entirely, simply leave the orange title ie:Orange CSD wap... (instead of deleting and then putting O2 csd wap), then you click on the "orange csd wap" to edit...when you get into the screen that wants the phone number, codes, username and all that then enter the o2 settings you have. It sounds complicated, and ultimately shouldn't work, but it does...I've seen it. However it's tricky and took me about 3 months of playing around with the settings, but it was worth it. If you need any more information, just let me know. Steve I can also say these settings won't work if your card is provisioned for csd wap to get the free minutes. The phone number for csd is different than for gprs, but you can get that from o2. I can't tell you how to make it work for that though as I don't know myself. I'd say you're better off sticking to gprs and losing the free minutes. ?
Guest cyberbax Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 ok thanks for trying martin i will also try using usdivers way of changing the name to orange csd wap and see if that is any different. you said a hard reset usually works, well i would rather not do that because then i have to unlock the phone again (i only did the temp one) any way thanks for tryin guys i will try to figure sumthing out.
Guest cyberbax Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 ok i just tried it with the name orange csd wap instead of o2 csd wap it worked itconnected to google, then i disconnected and reconnected and it managed to download yahoo.co.uk as well, although it did cost me so i am going to top it up tomorrow just to make sure i get my free wap then try again i will post what happens
Guest usdiver Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 ouch...temp unlock is no good. If you have an old orange card, or a new one, you can put £20.00 on it and they will unlock it for you. I'll have to do this with the c500 I'm getting, but it's permanent. Doesn't matter about hard resets then...also, it takes about a week to get the code but you just type it in to the phone...no downloading.
Guest usdiver Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 just read your other post...(missed it somewhere earlier)... :D glad you got it working... out of curiosity, is your sim card provisioned for gprs, or csd? If it is csd, then you might want to get another sim card and have it provisioned for gprs. Anyway, I am glad you got it working...though I don't understand how it works like that, but that's what I had to do with the other guys e200. It wouldn't work any other way. Also, just a little note: don't know how old your phone is or if you've ever had "sticky keys" or not, or any keys not responding properly, but if you do, don't leave it...send it back to the manufacturer for repair, especially if it's under warranty. I say this because every e200 I have personally known about has been a victim of this problem. It's the switchboard going... Just thought I'd tell you for future reference. See ya...oh, and please let me know how you get on with your current mission. If you need help you can let me know here, or pm me. That is... if I can help. Martin...if you are reading...would you happen to know if this situation is common, and how it's possible for it to work this way?
Guest cyberbax Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 bout the sticky keys thing, yes it has done that before. this phone was my dads, then he got a new C500 but they never came to collect the old E200. they had already replaced it once before becasue of sticky keys, but when my dad got his new C500 they never came to pick up the old e200. and my sim is set up 4 CSD wap although it does connect thru GPRS
