Guest jmk3d Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, please let me know. I bought a MPx200 AT&T phone and unlocked it so I could use it with my Cingular SIM. All went well, and I am able to use the phone to make and receive calls/text msg but the network that it says it's on is AT&T Wireless (has triangle symbol, too -assuming that means roaming?). As much as I try, I can't get it to switch to the Cingular network. I have the 1900 band in my area (Nashville, TN), but even when I go to Preferred Networks to try to "Add" one of the Cingular networks it comes back with an error: "Unable to save settings. Verify you have network coverage and that the setting is supported by your carrier." Now, this is not a big deal for calls and txt msg, but I can't get on the internet either using the settings I found on this site for Cingular setup. I'm just guessing that I can't connect to Cingular GPRS because it's actually on the AT&T Network. Am I anywhere close?
Guest majid23 Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Hi...This is because Cingular and AT&T are the same companies now. Your phone will say roaming, but you won't be charged for it or anything...Whichever signal is stronger, I guess your phone will pick up. It terms of GPRS settings, try the AT&T settings...If that doesn't work, call up Cingular and tell them that you are mostly on the AT&T network and you need to use your GPRS. A friend of mine who has Cingular put his chip into my MPx200 and AT&T Wireless came up with the roaming triangular icon...In all, it's the same network, so don't worry. Hope this helps...
Guest jmk3d Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 (edited) Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. But, the post for AT&T GPRS settings doesn't show much -no internet settings, just proxy. I guess I'll probably just have to call and get the run-around again. But, the problem with not being on the Cingular network is that it seems like I have less coverage on the AT&T network. I had a Nokia 3595 that I could pick up Cingular in my hometown great, but AT&T doesn't pick up out there hardly at all. Or maybe it's just the phone. Any thoughts on how to get it to work on Cingular network? Thanks **Edit to prev post: The only networks it shows on Preferred Networks under Settings/Telephony/Networks is AT&T and T-Mobile, even though I know there is Cingular Service out here.
