Guest freakstone Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 (edited) As the original thread to which this post referred has been deleted, this post has been removed by me as being largely useless. I can only assume that MoDaCo received a complaint about the content of the original thread. Of course, me removing this doesn't stop people reading the quoted replies of my original post, so if you've just decided to look at this thread: Move along now, nothing to see here! Let me just reiterate, it's really not worth updating your phone to the Cingular ROM 1.30 if you don't have a Cingular phone, unless your firmware's really old and, if so, you'd be better off waiting for an official firmware update from Motorola. Guest rborhara Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 my mpx220 says operator 0.380.4001.0 manufacturer 1.280.0.0 Radio version 1.00 im UK based and mpx220 the box is dated March 2005 Shall i do the update? As discussed a lot in the AT&T Firmware thread in this forum, it's possible to fool the Motorola System Updater into thinking that your phone is an older Cingular branded phone and will update your phone to the latest firmware branded to Cingular. How to update You need the following two attachments: The updater tool Motorola MPX220 System Update from this post: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Click here to download the updater The Cingular pre-1.030 systeminfo.xml file from this post: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right click and Save As for the systeminfo.xml Install and run the updater tool, follow the onscreen prompts until it says it has retrieved the information from your phone and is about to check on the internet to see if you need an update. At this point, leave the updater where it is and go to Start, Run, type in %temp% and click OK. In your temp folder you should find an MPX 220 System Update Wizard folder. In here there should be a systeminfo.xml file. Overwrite this with the one attached above, go back to the updater and click next to continue. The updater will send this xml file to Motorola and will find out that there is an update available as it thinks your phone is a Cingular model with older firmware than 1.030. It will then proceed to update your phone (this may take some time). Do I need to update? Now that's a good question. 1. If your phone is locked to a particular network and you're updating in the hope of unlocking it, don't bother. Firmware updates don't unlock phones, nor do they relock phones already unlocked. 2. A lot people refer to this Cingular ROM as version 1.30. It's not! It's 1.030, released mid Nov 2004. There's a 1.040 released 4 days before this Cingular one, but it's unbranded. There's also been a 1.150 unbranded, released in Dec 2004. If you have 1.150 in your about info (Start, Settings, About) as the manufacturer version, don't bother with this update. If it shows 1.30 and you're on Cingular, again don't bother. If you have anything with 0.xxx then it's probably worth updating. 3. This ROM update may give you vastly improved camera and earpiece volume, but only if you're updating from a particularly old or pre-prod version of firmware. It certainly won't give you voice dialling over bluetooth, it seems the phone simply can't do that, something to do with the bluetooth implementation in MS WM SP edition. Hope this helps, Freakstone <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
