Guest Perfectionist Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Do these cards have a maximum number of times they can be written onto or something - or do they just go on forever ?
Guest squall Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 they dont go on for ever, but they tend to outlast phones!
Guest Confused Stu Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 I know SD cards have a lieftime, but it's in the same kind of league as hard drives, rewritable CD's and mountains - it won't last forever, but it'll outlive the use you have for it (remember when a 486 processor with a VGA monitor was the most you'd ever need?!?). Tried googling for SD lifetime, and nearly every link was an SD card backed by a lifetime guarantee. I think this pretty much tells the story - companies aren't in the business of losing money years after they've made it! :D
Guest MitchellO Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Yeah, if an SD card works when you get it, it will typically work until you don't use it anymore (eg. you just buy your 50Gb SD, so you decide to retire the old 2Gb one :D) I don't think you need to worry about the life on them, they last a pretty long time. And as said, many companies offer lifetime warranties.
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Sweet :D So I dont need to waste a Gb of space on my PC's hard disk to keep a backup of my SD Card ...... or do I .... ??
Guest Confused Stu Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Unless you need the space on the hard drive, keep a back up. After all, if you phone gets stolen, what would you lose off the SD card that you wouldn't be able to get back? :D
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 8, 2005 Report Posted April 8, 2005 Unfortunately very true :D Backup time !!
Guest MitchellO Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Yeah, I backup my SD every now and then, just i do it to a CD. I just don't backup the music files on the card and it fits fine on a 700Mb CD.
