Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Erm...we wanted one of these for bloody ages and NOW they want to give it to us! Orange plans to issue a software update for subscribers worried about the security of their SPVs, which were launched late last year using Microsoft's Windows Smartphone 2002 software and which allow users to browse the Internet and take pictues
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 I'm concerned about security, I want the update... ;)
Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Bak to school for me, not giving my quotes DOH! http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/030116/80/djo5k.html
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 "Unless a customer pro-actively applies this process to their SPV -- which we obviously advise against -- we do not perceive this as posing any risk to the security of our customers or their enjoyment of the phone," Orange said. Oh, I'm glad that this won't destroy my enjoyment of the phone. Oh, that's right, we figured this out because certification was destroying my enjoyment of the phone. What a bunch of w**kers Orange are.
Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 At least they arnt going to force us to get rid of it, although i see the update as now being a bargening point, no update if you dont give up freedom great ;)
Guest AsherUK Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Quote from: http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/030116/80/djo5k.html "customers might be able to download applications that could make their SPV unstable" ... why would we want to download applications that make our SPV's unstable when we already have the most unstable app already installed: Smartphone 2002 !!!
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 No, that does sound right, I was installing screenjam.exe last night myself... I'm gonna try phonecrash.exe tonight.
Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 hehehe ;) nice one! well someone seems to have pocketquake running on smartphone now  from microsoft.public.smartphone.developer SUBJECT: Emulator memory + Apps "Hi all, Can anyone tell me how to increase the memory the emulator has available to it? I'm trying to run Quake on the phone, and it remote file viewer refuses to upload it saying not emough memory (I've editted the obvious XML file to no effect) I've managed to quickly fix the EXE for quake so that it runs on SPV's but needs more work to actually run properly (friend ran it on his actual phone to test) Also when I run the EXE I get an error screen saying that it is not a valid WinCE app - is this something to do with the certificates I read so much about on the board - and if so how do I disable this in the emulator??? the fix that works on phones uses files that dont exist in the emulator structure all help welcome thanks, muff"

If you get phonecrash and screenjam to work could you send me a copy ?..... Actually, I think I already have them installed somewhere, but I can't locate the exe's. Maybe Microsoft have renamed them and put them in the Windows folder !! ;)
Guest ajb3000 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Lets just hope another network has the sense to release a smartphone without certification in the near future. I for one would change networks for that!!
Guest Firaas Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Nah, Orange is still a top network (for businesses, anyway...) - am a newbie to Orange, but love 'em ;)

Guest ajb3000 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 yea, Orange is the best network, but if it means I can get an official phone without certification then I would change.
Guest Rob.P Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 If you wanna uninstall from the Thiswillbuggerem folder you have to use the hammer application, use it once and that will stop the programs from working ;)
Guest Orangatang Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I'd quite like an unstable phone
Guest neilg Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 i wonder what phone bill gates uses.... ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 You think he uses an SPV (really)? It would be pretty bad press if someone managed to take a photo of Bill using a Nokia or something... P
Guest crimminsky Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 I bet HE doesn't have to pay if he wants to certify his software ;)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 18, 2003 Report Posted January 18, 2003 I bet HE wouldn't give it a second though. Whats $600 when you're (personally) worth billions?
