Is the Magician for me?

its nearly upgrade time for me and i am contemplating taking the plunge and consolidating some of my toys into a Magician variant but i am unsure of a few things...

I have an e200 as my phone, a PPC PDA for SatNav and picking up work e-mails over the workphone (nokia 6230) BT/GPRS connection...both phones are on Orange

I was thinking of getting an O2 magician or T-Mobile version, unlocking for use on Orange, putting the work SIM in during the day for connection ease and then swapping out for my SIM in the evening.

My questions are:

Will the Magician work with my CoPilot s/ware? Copiot box says it needs PPC 2002 or WM2003 (1st or 2nd Edition)

Can i have an active bluetooth connection to the BT car kit as well as the BT GPS receiver?

Is swapping SIMs a pain in the backside?

Anyone aware of unlocking/different network settings issues? I have seen a thread where some guy had SMS issues going from T-mobile to Orange...

i really appreciate any thoughts on this...

Well, I am not sure about the GPS, but swaping sims is fine. I do it all the time between a plan for calls and a prepaid for GPRS. Takes about 1min to do it.

thanks for that...

anyone got any info the GPS side of things? it's pretty much dependant on that side of things.. If i cant use the GPS and the (car)phone at the same time then it's bit of a show stopper...

my pleasure.

Any magician variant can be unlocked for £20 at http://www.imei-check.co.uk/

If you get the t-mobile variant on contract they will unlock it for £15 after 1 month.

I have the settings for Orange UK (contract) available in a CAB file that you can load onto the phone and voila, MMS etc works fine!

This was one of my biggest issues about buying one on TMobile and using it on Orange, as I was unsure it'd work. No problems at all though, MSN, I.E. et al work fine

amo

thanks for that. that is exactly want i wanted to know. I actually stopped at the T-mobile stand in the local mall in Southampton to see if they had an MDA i could actually get my hands on... and they did! niiiiiice...

I am in reality still just under 3 months from being out of contract but i liked it that much i am still trying to sweet talk my wife into letting me have the new toy sooner rather than later. If i pick one up soon, and it's not too cheeky to ask, how can i get hold of your CAB file?

I'll make a new post for it rather than PM'ing it you, that way anyone else who needs it can access it :D
