Guest exosyphen Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 Greetings everyone, Mobile-Speed is a service designed to compress the data which you transfer over a mobile internet connection (such as : CSD,GPRS,EDGE,CDMA,WiFi,etc), thus increasing the transfer speed and effectively reducing your costs, by reducing the time you spend online or the amount of data you transfer. Mobile-Speed will compress HTML pages you surf. It won't affect the quality of the page or the way it's displayed. Opposed to other similar services, we compress data, and not cut of images or page elements to achieve performance. There will be no difference in using our service, in terms of surfing experience. Guest chucky.egg Posted April 7, 2005 Report Posted April 7, 2005 (edited) It sounds like OnSpeed Doesn't Opera's "speed up thingy" do this too? Or is that based on reducing the HTML to what the browser can support? Edited April 7, 2005 by chucky.egg
Guest scottishdave Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 It sounds like OnSpeed Doesn't Opera's "speed up thingy" do this too? Or is that based on reducing the HTML to what the browser can support? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Opera's web accelerator thingy compresses web pages and excludes certain content. Presumably code/content that the phone can't handle.
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Yeah, and it only works with Opera AFAIK OnSpeed only supports PocketPC (and others, but not Smartphone) Anyways, these guys have put me on the beta programme, and after a couple of niggles I'm hoping the latest email they've sent contains the answer. Anything that decreases the amount I spend on GPRS, or the amount of time I spend waiting for pages to load, has got to be a good thing.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Hi there, you mentioned originally when you first beta'ed your service that it would not work with things like Activesync OTA. Is this still the case or can me get our mobile emails etc compressed as well :?:
Guest exosyphen Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Opposed to OnSpeed and Opera Accelerator (which only reduce image quality) our service actually compress HTML pages served to your browser, without cutting stuff out. New options that will come soon : - Image quality reduction for extra speed - Compression for stuff other then browsing (currently, Mobile-Speed only compresses traffic for HTML surfers). From personal tests and logs of what users have achieved, traffic is reduced by up to 70% (speed is increased proportionally). Example : a 10Kb page becomes 3Kb not bad for a beta ;-)
Guest scottishdave Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 All the more reason for Orange to roll out a 3G SPV. :D GPRS Sucks (for browsing that is).
Guest exosyphen Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 And Mobile Speed : http://www.mobile-speed.com is now available for free for everyone! Enjoy!
Guest Mr.Clark Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 So is this any different/better than using the Opera Web Accelerator? Can you use them together? Is it worth it for an Opera user? Cheers ;)
Guest fozzie Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) Why don't you try and see, and then let us all know? Edited June 1, 2005 by fozzie
