Orange SPV M2000 Laptop Modem

Help wanted, I am having trouble setting up my Orange SPV M2000 to act as a modem for my w2k IBM Thinkpad. I have disabled Activesync on the Laptop and SPV, established that the PC can see the SPV via IR (icon appears on PC), started WModem(after setting IR) and get nothing ! Manually tried finding Modem no joy!.

Tried the same thing via the USB cradle, turned Active sync off everywhere, set WModem as USB and hit start...nothing, manual modem search draws a blank.

If I go to Device Manager lifting the device in and out of the cradle shows a 'Windows CE USB Device' so PC knows its there, same as IR.

Where are the Modem Drivers for USB or IR usage?

I wnated to use it as a simple dial up modem first and then graduate to using the GPRS for a faster connection, but to date can't get past first base.

Anyone got any good ideas!

I thought it installed the modem driver automatically when you first connect. Perhaps something went wrong there, leaving your PC messy. Try uninstalling the drivers you have for the phone, then try IR again. You should see a "found new hardware" alert for the modem.

Thanks for the suggestion, but, I already thought of that. I uninstalled the Active Sync 3.7 that came with the Orange CD and re-installed, no joy, so I then installed ActiveSync 3.8 from the MS site, not that I expected it to fix the problem...but it gave me some satisfaction.

I have had a careful scrutiny of the CD supplied by Orange and there does not appear to be ANY modem drivers on the CD only USB sync drivers (anyone tell me different). If they are not on the CD and not supplied with W2K then where do they come from to be automatically installed by teh harware Wizard?

The manual that come with SPV M2000 is also pretty useless when it comes to installing as a Modem, loads of text devoted to BT but almost nothing on USB or IR, my T22 has no BT!

That's not what I meant. Remove ActiveSync then go to the windows hardware manager and uninstall every phone related driver from there. Go through each of the types, remove any phone-sounding ones, reboot, then try the install. This fixes most windows driver issues.

You might not see the modem files on the CD, but I wouldn't bother about that. They'll likely be in some anonymous 0124244.inf file somewhere.

Nope, I gave up and decided to do some work for a change. When i get some spare time I will try to solve. Currently there is no way i can get the SPV to work as any sort of modem, either via IR or via USB with Win2000 and the Orange CD.
