Hi,

I am new on here so hello to everyone associated with this marvellous place.

Here is the problem 90% of the time when I connect my phone up to my PC via USB everything goes as planned until I try to click on the explore icon. As soon as I do that i get a message saying

Failed to start remote services.

Critical communications have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device and then connect again.

Is there something I am doing wrong or is it just my PC.

windows xp sp2

2.2ghz amd athlon

512mb ram

80 gb hard disk

I dunno if this will help but i will leave my PC spec here as well. The phone is SPV c500.

The user guide doesn't help, neither does microsoft mobile so I hope somebody can help me.

First step is to ensure you are running ActiveSync 3.8... the past couple of ActiveSync releases have made significant improvements in the reliability of the connection!

Thanks that minor problem is solved now

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I got a different problem with my Voyager connected on my PC. Am using activesync 3.8. My PC detects the phone, and when I do try to copy a movie from PC to my storage card (movie file size=130Mb), at the middle of the copy/convert process, my phone disconnects from the PC. Usually my phone times out, using a USB connection.

Is there a problem with the driver in my PC? Or this is a bug from Activesync 3.8.

I didn't have this problem before when I had my Tanager and using Activesync 3.6 on same PC.

Can anybody help me?

Hi

I'm having exactly the same problem as the OP but with version 3.8. The phone syncs everytime but when I try to browse/explore it I get the error message:

Failed to start remote services.

Critical communications have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device and then connect again.

I've tried reinstalling activesync twice now but it's made no difference.

The only thing I can think of that has changed with my setup is I have had broadband installed.

Any ideas?

Got it working.

Found another post mentioning a firewall causing the same error and switched off Zonealarm briefly and it worked again.

I think it was Windows Explorer being blocked in ZA that was causing the problem. Removed it from ZoneAlarm and ActiveSync is working again.
