MFC for SP2003?

I've wanted to get into the Smartphone 2003 programming arena for a few weeks now, but the bad thing is that I don't like writing Windows software in C++ from ground zero. Is there a freely available framework that is similar to MFC so that I can quickly write programs, if MFC does not work for SP2003 as it appears so far in my efforts? I really don't want to create a framework myself as it would be exhaustingly tiresome and I would rather try to port the MFC libraries to work on Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphones, but aparently some of the source code is not available and I'm pretty much stuck. I don't know C# and really don't want to use the .NET system because it is very slow on SP2003. Any suggestions?
