Guest Kalif Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Hi there Does any one know what is the default period for SMS validity? Usually you can change that period in the other phones but i cannot see this option in my mpx200. So maybe some of you know how to change that validity period for SMS? Thx Kalif
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 If you mean how long a message stays on the phone, it's basically as long as you keep it there.

In other phones you can set for example 2 hours of validity and if the message will not be delivered to the receiver in 2 h it will be canceled. I cannot see any such settings and also i wonder how long it will stay in the network and wait if person who is not login to the network. Kalif
Guest cold_fire Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 (edited) In Romania on Orange the maximum validity period is 3 days (72 hrs) .It may be a default 2 all networks. I have not managed to find how 2 set the period on my SPV C500 either. It may b set to network setting. :D Edited April 11, 2005 by cold_fire
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I've never seen this option before, or had a phone that has this either.
Guest Kalif Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I think most of the GSM phones have this options, like my old N8210, SE t68i its usualy in the menu where you can change type of the SMS. I'm in Poland and i know that i can change that period, and also i know that some of the phones have this period set to very short time on the default settings, which cause sms to be cancel before it could be delivered. 3 days its not long time, in my previous phones i usually set it to "max time" which is more then one week. I may ask my provider if they have any default settings for sms, but i doubt ...i think is due to mobile phone settings. Kalif
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 It's unlikely to be a phone specific feature as once you send a message it will stay on the networks server until the person you sent it to recieves it. So it will be the network that controls how long the message is stored for, and you may then have the option to alter your account to vary the length of time this is stored for.

I play with this option many times on the other phones, and it works. In some cases can be very usefull. Of course such options should be allowed by the SMSC but never then less there should be a posibillity od changing this option in the menu. If you have a time check the other mobile phones and i'm sure that under sms settings you will find this option. :D Kalif Edited April 11, 2005 by Kalif
Guest dodding nonkey Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Kalif m8, to change the setting you are looking for I chucked my sim card in an old Nokia (a 3310 I think?) and changed it, then put it back in my mpx200. I had to change it because I wanted to ensure that SMS messages stayed on the server whilst I was out coverage for an extended period of time. Hope that helps.
