I have a sandisk 256mb + Wi-Fi.

Can anybody tell me how to connect to the wireless broadband in my house or anywhere else using the above?

Do I need to have the GRPS settings?

I have a t-mobile compact!

Just got one of these myself, install the driver that came on the tiny disk, pop the wifi card in the mda and away you go, thats it. As you have a wireless network I assume that you already know the basics of wifi. If not I would suggest that you read up on it to make sure your network is safe, if your wifi network is open anyone could be sat outside your house accessing your broadband with one of these cards.

Our network has wep 'on' so I happy no one can sit outside our house, thanks anyway.

When I look at the sandisk wi-fi settings, little seems to be happeing.

current channel seems to change from 3 to 10 and back again.

current Tx rate shows 2 Mb/s

Link quality (0%)

Strength (0%)

Station IP info shows IP Address as 0.0.0.0 and does not change if I renew IP.

More Info>> shows IP Address as 0.0.0.0 same for Subnet Mask.

No Gateway address

DHCP Server shows 255.255.255.255

No Primary wins server.

Lease obtained ?

Lease Expires ?

Device name [1] SanDisk WiFi SD Card

State show Associating.

AP Browser

Preferred Profiles has 5 icons,

page with a star in left hand top corner in white.

page with a hand in grey.

Our wireless base station shows as BTVOYAGER

as it does below SSIDs

The icons to the right show mast, which takes me to 'configure wirelss networks.

Apply take me back to Sattus.

Refresh does the SSID refresh.

Advance page talks about Power Save Mode. and 802.11b etc.

Where should I be looking?

What do you think is wrong or not working?

Is there something different showing in your settings to mine?

Please.

Hi there,

I've got the Sandisk WiFi card (+256MB), and have it working with my home network pretty much fine. I also use WEP. I'll go through the motions of setting up. Firstly, I'll delete my current setup...

- Open AP Browser tab

- Select my AP (default), then clicking the cross to delete it. done.

After about 10 seconds the software pops up a box saying "New network detected". It want's me to make a decision...

- From the "Internet" or "Work" options, I select "Internet" (not sure what difference it makes).

- I then hit connect. I am prompted for a Network key, which I type in.

- I hit ok and the form dissappears.

- If I go to the Status tab I can see that my Compact has aquired an IP address automatically. Also, my rate is 11Mb/s, 80% link quality and 73% strength.

- If I go to the AP Browser tab, then select the "default" AP, and then click properties I can go and see my "Authentication" settings. These have been automatically detected and show:

WECA Compliant (always use Open)

64 Bit (HEX)

Enable 802.1X (not ticked)

- I'm using DLINK Router+Wireless AP, if that's any use. My Router is set up as a DHCP server, so that it automatically gives new machines on the network an address. It could be that yours isn't set up like this so that's why your SanDisk is stuck in "acquiring" mode? Basically, your router isn't telling the PDA what it's network settings should be.

- You could consider going into Start->Settings->Connections and setting up the DHCP settings and IP address manually (it's under Network Cards I think, *not* the SanDisk Wifi option). You could copy the DHCP stuff from your PC (type ipconfig /all in a command prompt to see them). Make sure to give it a different IP address. For example, if your computer is 192.168.0.2, give you PDA 192.168.0.22 or something.

Anyway, it's hard to know what the crack is, and I'm no expert, but hopefully *something* here might help!

Good luck!

Tobes

I have the standard Sandisk Wifi (no memory), and to connect to networks I put the card in, wait a few seconds and it pops up with a box that has the available network. If there is a WEP key, you ill be prompted for it, and then its done.

BTW, the AP Broswer doesn't work on mine.

I also use DHCP and have no problems. If you specify it manually, you may have trouble connecting to networks other than your own.

I haven't had problem with the DHCP.

Got one of these myself. Useful for net surfing in bed but not a great deal else, quite simply the "arial"/SD card protrudes far too much for the card to be left in when not being used. Consequently theres too much swapping of sd cards going on.

Thanks, I had another look at the settings and thought the wep was stopping this working. BT provide a control panel and went to that. Found the wep settings and there were the answers! Yes it is now working. Apart from MSN Messenger!

Thanks all who helped.

Has anyone tried PocketWinc by Cirond? http://www.cirond.com/pocketwinc.php

I find it to be the best of the bunch. I first tried MiniStumbler and found it to be very disappointing by comparison to its PC sibling.

PocketWinc will list all the networks and then check for connectivity if you want. Its £11.50 after the end of the free trial but well worth it in my opinion.

It just seems to 'bounce' back, saying the server is not responding?
