MPX 220 Speaker not working

I hope someone has idea about this one:

A couple of days ago, my speaker started to work intermittantly. Basically, I noticed I wasn't hearing any calls. Then I realized that I couldn't hear the 'click' everytime I moved the cursor in my phone. To solidify my suspicions, the speakerphone wasn't working either. As you can imagine, this is a problem if the phone doesn't make any noise when it rings. The vibrate function works fine, however. I tried a hard reset with no luck. I checked the profiles a number of times.

I'm currently in Hong Kong where I bought the phone and took it to the Authorized Motorola Repair center. After keeping it for a few hours and upgrading the software to the newest version, they returned it with the same problem (presumably, they forgot to check). After another hour of swapping SIM cards into mine and a number of new handsets, there was the same problem, even in the new handsets. We determined it could be the battery so we changed that and it seemed to work. I got it home, charged it, and sure enough, same problem.

Could the SIM have something to do with it? I doubt it becuase it has only certain information and I couldn't imagine it causing a problem in the phone like this.

Could it be the charger doing something funky to the battery? Again, seems strange.

Finally, could it be a virus somehow doing this?

Can anyone help? I love my phone, but no speaker is not really an option.

bizarre.

i doubt that its the sim or the battery. it sounds like the charger is your problem - if the new battery had your speaker working until it was charged, id bet that its doing something funky to your battery. is it a motorola charger? if so, id be tempted to take that in and replace that (as well as the battery now, since its been charged with that charger). if its not, id spend a few bucks to replace that one with something else.

also... i doubt its a virus, but trend micro has virus protection for smartphones. and its free.

good luck!

dmill, do you have the lastest verision of firmware? If not this could be your problem.

If that is not the problem then take your charger to the store you bought it from and explain your problem-- it sounds like you might have a funky charger

good luck

Thanks for the suggestion, I am up-to-date, though that would have been a good bet.

I'll send a little update tomorrow, when I hope to get a new charger (and battery).

Apparently it was a charger problem. When I took mine in, the repair rep said that the charger I had was not the correct charger for my phone. He also had trouble believing that the charger I had came in the same package as the phone.

In any case, new charger=no problem.
