Guest Twisticles Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I've lurked and searched for ages but no luck so far with the following questions for the T-Mobile MDA Compact: 1) Anyone tried Onspeed (www.onspeed.com) I'm thinking this could help my GPRS bill (7.50 per Mb, I don't use it enough to sign up for a plan) 2) PPC Skype - anyone using this successfully? 3) I had the O2 Smartphone, but I recall looking at my mates C500 and thinking "OH good, you can synch outlook and pop3 on the device to the same folders" - this isn't available on PPC2003?!? 4) Using the settings/button option, I set my calender button to [rotate screen] but there is no option to set the direction. Of course, I'm left handed and it goes right...anyone know the registry hack for this? 5) Alarm - is there a way to get the sound to repeat quicker? Mine seems to have a 5" delay between repititions... And what is with the camera in low light? Small niggles I guess but I am *so* in love with this phone/pda :D

Guest jfran Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 (edited) I've lurked and searched for ages but no luck so far with the following questions for the T-Mobile MDA Compact: 1) Anyone tried Onspeed (www.onspeed.com) I'm thinking this could help my GPRS bill (7.50 per Mb, I don't use it enough to sign up for a plan) am about to test onspeed and , will let you know how it goes, and u better off getting the gprs bundles as it improves the price.... 2) PPC Skype - anyone using this successfully?yes and it was a great experience, however didnt have a gprs monitor on to see how much data was actually used ;( 3) I had the O2 Smartphone, but I recall looking at my mates C500 and thinking "OH good, you can synch outlook and pop3 on the device to the same folders" - this isn't available on PPC2003?!? unfortunatley not, but you can sync outlook and sub folders 4) Using the settings/button option, I set my calender button to [rotate screen]but there is no option to set the direction. Of course, I'm left handed and it goes right...anyone know the registry hack for this? if you use the normal screen alignment button, it rotates to the right then left, so why complicate things with a reg hack?? rgds jim Edited April 19, 2005 by jfran
Guest MitchellO Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 because he wants to use the hardware button, as he said, to rotate it, not the today icon. I have had numerous times where I wanted to rotate the screen without leaving what i was doing. I managed to get it to do what you want by first going to the "Screen" setting panel in settings, and set it to left. Click ok, and it will be to the left. Now, press your hardware button for rotate and it will go to portrait. Push again and it will go to the left!! I am right handed, but i tried this and it works.
Guest jfran Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 No tried it myself but this is very similar to onspeed and free 8) http://www.mobile-speed.com UPDATE: Talking out of my bum, it's for windows mobile- sorry  <{POST_SNAPBACK}> have successfully tested mobile speed on my compact, got skype and wap to work, however having problems with alwaysonmail as that needs to connect directly to the internet and not via a proxy. Not sure if MMS would work as that needs a WAP proxy and not the HTTP proxy as suggested by mobile speed, however as I have removed my mms client (along with all other forms of t-mobile customisation, though the device is still locked) I am unable to test that. You will need to configure your internet connections to connect via the work network as described below; The below assumes you are already able to connect to the internet! Start -> Settings -> Connections (tab) -> Connections (Icon) -> Select the Advanced Tab -> Select Networks Button -> Make sure all fields connect using My Work Networks -> ok Select Tasks Tab -> Edit Proxy Server -> Select This Network connects to the internet and uses a proxy server -> Select Advanced Button -> Delets the WAP server Address and Add the HTTP xx.xx.xx.xx Details provided in the welcome email and configure the port to 2622 -> ok -> ok to complete the configuration. Points To Note: 1. Skype have been tested and worked fine on T-Mobile UK 2. AlwaysOnMail that needs to connect directly to the internet is affected - no means to select how this connects to the internet. 3. Wap browsing has been shown to work over HTTP as opposed to WAP 4. Picture Messaging /MMS may be affected as a proxy connection is needed to WAP as opposed to HTTP however given the above it *MAY* work (will let you know how that goes as I have removed the MMS client from my device MDA device) rgds Jim
