I've been waiting on Orange to get the M2000 in stock for about three weeks now. When I spoke to Orange customer services about ten days ago they told me they were expecting them in for 'testing' on the 7th and would be ready to ship by the 11th i.e. today. I've phoned today to check and got the usual story i.e. 'i don't know who told you that because we don't have that information etc etc. So it looks like I could be waiting indefinitely for an upgrade (I've been quoted £250 in a 'final offer, no negotiation' kind of tone, which is interesting given some of the threads on here re pricing.)

Anyhow, I don't think I can wait any longer and, after what must be 10 years + with Orange, am thinking about cancelling my contract and going for an O2 XDA IIs. The only downside with this as far as I can see would be sacrificing my current plan which, I've had for a long while and, judging by current deals looks to be good value (Orange Talk 150 - 150 mins for twenty quid a month).

Niggling at the back of my mind is the thought that I'm just letting my impatience get the better of me and that by far the best thing to do would be to wait a couple of weeks.

Someone talk me out of (or into?) this.

I'm also waiting for the M2000 to come back in stock (apparently, they are due in for testing later this week, so try OCS on Friday and they should know when they'll hit the shelves).....like you, I'm not impressed by an upgrade charge of £250, especially as the nice lady in the O2 shop said the XDA IIs was £99 as long as you took out a contract for £25/month or more....and they're sleek and black too.

I'm gonna give Orange one last try on Friday and if I can't get one for nothing (like others seem to be able to do with little or no trouble), then I'll switch to PAYG with my E200 and go get me a shiny new XDA IIs from the O2 shop; my two sons have contract O2 phones and they've had no problems in the last six months so hopefully that's the norm!

Sorry, but I'm not doing a very good job of talking you out of jumping ship....still, a change is as good as a rest (supposedly!).

Cheers,

Mark.

Screw Orange, I've been waiting for the MPX to come out a year - I got bored and decided to get a "Blue Angel" instead. My contract ran out over 6 months ago with Orange and they wanted to charge me £250 quid for a phone upgrade for a M2000.

Eventually, after much running around (due to Orange) I've went out and bought a XDA IIs on O2 for 99quid.

Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a spare battery but I'm fed up with Orange and really needed a new phone (my MPX200 broke the other day). So far, I'm happy with it and can't see any major difference between the two.

When you call Orange - go through to the people who deal with "Leaving" customers - friend of mine got his M2K for free because he said he was thinking of leaving (he was past the upgrade date).

I upgraded for £99 but had to go to 3 different shops before I managed to get one.

OK, here's what I'm gonna do

1. Phone Orange and ask for a PAC number, see if that gives me any levarage on the negotiating front.

2. Go to the O2 shop and see the XDA IIs in the flesh, see what kind of deal I can get from them. Might even look at the XDIIi, I like the sound of a faster processor and megapixel camera, but not sure if I can do without the keyboard - both the IIs and IIi are the same price on the O2 online shop.

3. If Orange can do the M200 for under £150 I'll wait til the end of the week to see if stock arrives.

4 if Orange >=£150

Goto O2 shop

Buy XDA IIs

I've been with Orange for a few years now and called them to get a quote as an upgrade for the M2000..was quoted £250 plus £88 early upgrade fee as I was into the 10th month of my contract. Called their disconnection dept and having said that I can get a better deal from O2, plus I've been paying almost £100 a month for the past 4 months for 2 contracts, I was told that I can get the M2000 free and no upgrade fee. I'm a happy bunny!!...but they dont have stock until maybe this or next week. Now do I get rid of my Jam and make way for its bigger brother!! lol

Well, I've just phoned Orange customer services and explained that I wanted a PAC number because the upgrade to the SPV M2000 was much more expensive than the deal I could get with O2. And guess what? Nope, they didn't try to talk me out of it by offering a much better deal - just gave me the code. Looks like it's bye bye Orange.

I had the exact same experience. I was also told that their rules for how they manage retention had changed, this may be why. Its their loss... I wasn't expecting the M2000 for free, but to charge me so much more for an upgrade over the price that O2 are offering for a new contract is just plain insane.

Well now i'm the proud owner of a XDA IIi. I looked at the IIs (because I was trying to upgrade to a M2000 with Orange after all) but after holding both in my hand I decided that the IIi was more comfortable (it _is_ marginally smaller and lighter) and it has a lot of minor improvements... and I wasn't all _that_ taken with the IIs keyboard after playing with it for a while... I felt it was "ok... but... meh!"

If you don't mind me asking, how much? O2 online says 179.99. I thought I might get a better deal if I go to the shop at lunchtime.

Thats what I paid. Maybe I could have got it for less but haggling was never my strong point and it was £70 less than orange wanted so i was already happy...

Went to the O2 shop, but they didn't have any XDA models in stock. They did have a non-working demo of the IIs though, so I got my first look at the keyboard. I think it's very usable, but nonetheless I've now bought an XDA IIi from the O2 online shop for 179.99. I reckon I can live without the keyboard - I dnt txt 2 much and If I end up using word a lot (unlikely) I'll buy a separate keyboard. In the end, the faster processor, silver case and megapixel camera won me over - I thought the XDA IIS' grey/black finish looked a bit tatty.

Delivery within three days - nearly there!

Good choice, from what i've seen in my admittedly short time with a IIi, you won't regret it! Now I _do_ use text a lot, both for SMSing people and for general note taking, but to be honest, I find input with the stylus or the "phone pad" keyboard to be more than good enough for me.

I also got a delivery of bits and pieces from Brando today, got a spare battery, "worldwide" travel charger and a screen protector for less, including delivery, than most uk places are selling a second battery for!

Do you have a URL handy for Brando?

My XDAIIi arrived this morning!

Thanks Rob, Nice review by the way. I used to keep my footwear on the desk in front of the monitor, but I found it interfered too much with my work! ;)

The final Irony - txt received from Orange customer services today -

'You asked us to let you know when we have stock of the SPV M2000. We have them available today; please call 150, free, to upgrade now.'

At least the call is free, even if the upgrade isn't!

;) I can't believe how messed up their upgrade process is. Oh well.

I managed to get a SPV M2000 for free today on a £30 a month contract with 200 minutes anytime, any network, 500 texts and free insurance.

The trick was to speak to the right person. At first I was quoted £250 for the handset, then £150 and then finaly after asking for my PAC number and a lot of negotiating with the disconectment department and senior sales manager I got that deal!

Does anyone no what the battery life is roughly? And does the screen scatch easily? would it be worth buying a fancy case and screen protector?

Also does anyone know if i can get Tom Tom Navigator software for this phone?

Definately worth investing in a case or at least a screen protector.

The battery life isn't so bad. I was pleased not to have to recharge my MDA III once while away for the weekend in Chichester a week back...
