Guest pbrennan Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I wasnt sure who to ask but the forum has answered all my other questions so.... I have been playing with software to convert a DVD to my new jam. I found this link which shows how to do it using DVD Shrink and PocketDiviXEncder. The tutorial is really easy but im sure i am missing something as my files are coming out larger than 1Gb. http://www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id=215 On PocketDiviXEncder it tells me the file will be 238mb but the output file never is. Basically been testing it on a trailer (orig 56mb) - output file says its going to be 8mb but turns out to be 45mb Please tell me what I have missed! By the way I really am following the tutorial to the letter! Not touched compression settings on dvd shrink - but it doesnt say to.. considering buying Pocket DVD Studio but would rather spend it on other apps!
Guest yarod_g14 Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 The tutorial seems pretty to the point. Its using the DVD shrink soft to rip the VOB files to one AVi and then you DIVX it using the pocketdivx encoder. I have always used DVD2AVI for this purpose. If I remember correctly I found a couple of good tutorials for ripping VOB files to an AVI @ www.doom9.org, you will find a few others as well on their site. I have managed to get a near on perfect copy of a couple of films using this method. Come out at about 250 meg though. Used to be about 150 for SPV when res was only set to 176 x 220 now Im using 240 x 320 if I want good quality it means more space.
Guest MitchellO Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Not exactly sure of your problem at the moment, but definately don't buy PocketDVDStudio. It is really crap. The output sucks.
Guest pbrennan Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Thanks for the warning! The problem really is I cant get the file to a decent size ie to even fit on a 1Gb SD. I must be missing a settings but not sure. If you look at the last image on the link in my first post it shows what the file size is going to be - ie 238.7mo It does the same for me but when the program runs and then finishes the file is nowhere near that size. I am using a 1 minute trailer to test the software out myself. so it shows the file size in my case would be 8Mo but when its finished it turns out to be 45Mb. WHat does Mo mean anyway? Thanks for you help!!!!! :D
Guest MitchellO Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I use the DVD Decrypter to put the DVD on my PC, but that shouldn't effect the outcome. I can easily get a 1:45hr video down to 250Mb, normally with Video on 7 and audio on 4.
Guest GothTeddy Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Mo = Mb, in silly countries where they can't be bothered to follow an international standard :D
