I've had a C500 for a few months now and am very happy with it. I recently ordered a car charger cable from a well known phone accessories and car modding (!?) online shop. They sent me a cable for a motorola V3, but I didn't check it for 3 weeks. I used it at the weekend and it didn't work (then I checked it and saw it had a small label saying motorola v3). Now I can get it to charge through USB. I've misplaced the mains charger.

Are these cables compatible? I would have thought that this cable simply puts out the same output as a USB port. The only other thing I can think of is that the battery is so dead that the pc can't even see the phone (is this possible?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds more like the mini USB port of your C500 is dead due to a wrong cable. If the provider of your car charger sent the wrong cable, I suggest they should use their 3rd party insurance and reimburse your C500.

I also bought one of those chargers and it didn't work on mine either. In the end, the company sent me out a car charger and an adapter that you plugged into your home socket and the car charger then plugged into that.

Hope that helps?

Ok, had an idea, I borrowed a battery from someone and put it in my c500 and it works! So either my battery is knackered (unlikely) or if the battery is completely flat, it cannot be recognised by the PC so cannot be charged by via USB.

Thanks for your help. I would ask for a refund on the cable, but I've had it 2/3 weeks and only just noticed it's wrong so I guess I'll have to just buy another and hope (unless anyone has opened their car charger and can point me to a circuit diagram so I can test/modify mine)

Buy a proper Orange car charger and it will work. To charge via USB on the PC you need ActiveSync and I believe if it can't "see" the pohone it won't charge.

True, I have activesync and it won't charge unless I have enough charge to get it started. I'll dig out the mains charger and not let it get so low in future!

It's not good to let the battery go completely flat anyway. I belkieve it can cause other problems.

Good luck
