Spoke to tomtom technical support and asked when they intend to release mobile5, as i cant wait and require it asap. They told me we were looking at may. What upset me was she then added they are not releasing it for general sale only with a phone bundle. So i said basically you have to get a new phone and contract with certain providers and you can purchase tomtom mobile5 ? or it will come with it. And the answer was yes. Now im gutted.

Copied from the TomTom Mobile 5 FAQ (I cant seem to link to it): Question: How can I upgrade to TomTom MOBILE 5? How long will this upgrade offer last? Answer All TomTom MOBILE owners with a valid product code are being offered an upgrade and can submit an application. If you have subscribed to TomTom news, you will receive an e-mail in early April 2005 with complete details about the upgrade offer and a link to the upgrade website. More information on the upgrade will be available at www.tomtom.com. Register now and we will inform you how to apply for the upgrade. The upgrade offer is scheduled to be in place for 6 months*. * TomTom may shorten the period, change the upgrade conditions or cancel the upgrade offer at any time. Guest mirpy1 Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 i wonder if thats because you already have the tomtom mobile product and they are just updating people to comply with v5? when i ask her release date she was very quick in her reply for may and was quite confident in her voice that they wont issue it as a stand alone product without the phone package, when asked if they would in the future she said possibly but not yet! I suppose it depends on what networks are taking this on and how much power they have to keep tomtom from splitting the package? i bet any money orange are involved, a dickie bird told me possibly the c550 will be also be launched in may mmmmmmmmmmmm? same time. I was going to get the first tomtom mobile but ill just have to wait longer now for this one. This was thje number i rang for tech 08451610009, she sounded like a londoner.
Guest evilsilverfish Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I see your point.. it will be interesting as there are users on this forum now who are chomping at the bit to get hold of Mobile 5, and would probably not want to or not able to go out and get the forthcoming Orange C550 package. As for her having a Laandon accent, I thought TomTom was a Dutch company? Maybe she just watches too much Ostenders... (Ok I know Ostend is in Belgium but its still funny - isnt it?) Mike :D

Looks good but However, please allow a maximum of 5 weeks for delivery I thought it was illegal to advertise anytrhing mail order in the UK with a shipping time of greater than 28 days? Or does this not come under that law as it's not "mail order". Pity I have Co-Pilot as I'd like to try this and TomTom don't sell it as s/ware onnly. :?:

Guest Confucious Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Co Pilot is great I am very satisfied with it. I think you'll be able to buy Tom Tom 5 soon though. People that have tried bothseem to think TomTom is better but I'm not sure how - you won't be disappointed with CoPilot.
Guest chigwa Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 I have a THB Car Kit fitted for my c500 but when i use tom tom there is no sound due to the car kit disabling the phone speaker - is there a way round this so the sound comes out of the phone as well as the car kit speaker??
