Welcome to the forum.

A search will reveal plenty of threads on this subject but the most common cause is your firewall.

I have the exact same problem, and I DID do a search, and my problem is not solved by disabling my firewall.

all this started when I upgraded to activesync 4, it didn't work, and then, I uninstalled and went back to 3.8, and since, I get that communications error. i've uninstalled, installed, uninstalled, rebooted. erased, and done all sorts of things, and I cant get activesync to work again, I've even tried 3.7, and still a no-go.

I found I had to uninstall Activsync first then reinstall v4 to get it to work.

Also while uninstalling\reinstalling remember to leave any devices unplugged from the pc.
