Smartphone (MPx220) Backlight Control

I've searched both here and other forums, Handango marketplace and elsewhere, in search of a very simple program or registry tweak for keeping the backlight off while I type or browse--in general, while operating the phone. There are many apps & tweaks for keeping the light on, I want it OFF.

Unfortunately I am not a programmer, else wise I would write my own app as I am quite sure this is a fairly simple thing to do. I noticed code placed in other sections of MoDaCo regarding this (a re-work on torchlite.exe, so called backlite.exe) but I do not know how to implement it and the executable posted there changes nothing on my equipment. Moonlight Box is a program by Crazy Horse that apparently does the same on SP's but it has not worked thus far on my device and the developer suggests it may not be compatible.

Can anyone help me to modify my registry or write a quick app to do this? It bugs that while playing java games, the MPx220 gives the option to turn off backlight during play but at no other time! Would love to do something about the poor battery life I am presently experiencing.
