Guest manofatlantis Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I am having serious reliability issues with the HTC Himalaya (mine's an SPV M1000), and I have totally lost confidence in HTC products. I think they are designed without consideration for its structural ability to withstand use or quite simply, strategically designed to fail so you have to get the new one. java script:emoticon('') smilie For instance, the earphone plug - Nokias have them anchored to the casing. On the M1000, the only anchor is the solder on the motherboard, which fractures after 24 hrs of normal use - plugging and unplugging. When this fails, you loose all audio, and you cant hear the phone ring, or hear people talk when they call unless using a bluetooth headset. In another instance, it was not quite 3 months after I got the phone before the charger conector gave way (again anchored only by solder). This has since been repaired by HTC. I have no doubts this will give way again, because the earphone connector was repaired then too, but has given way again. So, my question is this - is there anything as good as the M1000 (or generally Himalaya) from another manufacturer which is more deliberately designed? Considering what they cost, I need something I can use without feeling compelled to change for a few years.
