MDA T-Mobile Re-Build

OK, so I decided to re-build my MDA, as I'd tried lots of software and some of it was rubbish, and my phone was a bit of a mess.

I did the hard/soft RAM save reset, and them seemed (for reasons best known to my stylus hand) to load most of the Extended_rom folder - so I've not save much RAM, and I'm not much better than I was.

I am prepared to repeat this, and actually try the phone before re-loading the same 90% again, but have a slight problem.

I have TomTom, and have had to install this twice, with an uninstall in beteween (1st time just seemed to freeze). Now in Programs I have TomTom Navigator and TomTom Navigator (2) as well as GPS and GPS (2).

Hopefully after a proper re-build this will have gone, but I also had this with Virtual Display - despite uninstalling it remained in Programs, and still tried to start the app after a soft re-boot.

Other things I have learned:

If you use Permenant Save, your data it will survive a hard reset. I had this switched on for all Outlook data, so every soft reset it would take 4-5 minutes to load/save. I suppose it's obvious, but I didn't realise that a soft reset would not wipe the names & numbers. So now I have tasks and connections on Permenant save, and run XBackup for contacts and calanders so I can restore without a PC.

Connections: These were working fine after the re-build, and then after running one of the T-Mobile settings in the Extended_ROM, they don't. E-mai was flowing down via POP, now there is no connection. Not had time to fiddle yet, as work PC has no pass through internet connection.

The Templates directory didn't install, so I can't get these to work.

Again, not tried very hard yet.

I installed Tomom and Voice Command onto main memory - having read other posts I'll try the SD card instead.

Things I forgot

All your call history, text messages, High Scores and e-mails will be lost unless you extract/save it. Reccomendations on the best way of doing this ?

For the record here's the installed Apps:

Phone:

D9

GPRS Moniter

MiniStumbler

TomTom Navigator

Battery Bar (Switched off, only using program Bar & App Toggle features)

MS Voice Command

Windows Media Player (Can this be uninstalled)

1gb Card

Adobe Reader for PPC

TomTom Maps

8 Games

MP3s, audio books & personal data (inc Caller ID Photos)

Any tips/advice before I repeat this tonight gratefully received !

Well - did an X-backup full restore - to see what it stores, as I'm going to rebuild again - it really does capture everything - Themes, e-mails & text messages, call logs, it's a good blanket backup tool.

It's a shame it's not more selective.

So, is there a less simple backup tool that will allow backup & restore of call logs, e-mails text messages etc, but not applications - ie something more selective?

I haven't heard of one that will backup such specific things like call logs and SMS.
