Yeah, it could easily be a late April Fools! In their discussion, several members have said they are suspicious. Would be good to be true, 20MB ROM !!!!!!!! +7.6Mb, so its almost 28MB ROM!!

I thought it was an April Fools joke too !!

Hopefully its not - cos I have already decided what programs to install in that juicy 28mb :D

If it is - well I guess I will just have to wait 6-12 months until JAM 2 arrives :D

It would be really great if it could be done. It probably can, but whether it will be accomplished by a newbie to xda-developers, not so sure.

Would be great if it works. There is a pic of the increased storage size, but I don't really want to jump in to quick. maybe after a few MoDaCo members have tried it.

Apparently quite a few people now have this working , read through the whole thread but cant find any reference to the tmobile mda, anyone know if this should work on a uk tmobile mda.

I've tried it and it does work. I have a T-Mobile MDA (English) and I have already upgraded to 2 different IMate Jam roms because the T-Mobile 1.03 is terrible. The rom which gives you the extra storage is rom 1.11 and it is very good, no problems.

What exactly is wrong with the 1.03 firmware, which numbers on bootup are the firmware versionas i dont know what my firmware version is, seems to run ok though. Before i try it on mine i want to be sure its 100% ok, anyone else tried it yet on a tmobile mda.

I found that 1.03 was unstable and had the following problems;

* For no reason the backup battery would show as being 0% full and the unit would freeze. Fine on a soft reset

* If you turned bluetooth off and some time later re-enabled it then you would get an error that there was no bluetooth hardware.

* Battery life was not that great

* Some 3rd party programs could cause the unit to hand and only a hard reset would fix.

There are all known issues with the rom that have also been reported by other users on some forums.

However if you have no problems then there is no need to upgrade!

Just trying to find a 64mb sd card to do it with. Don't want to muck around with my 1Gb sd.

Would love a tutorial on all this ROM upgrading stuff Paul ;)

Now that you mention it - I have had all those problems with the T-mobile MDA too !

How much of an improvement to battery life does the 1.11 version give you ?

Well I learned alot about upgrading the roms and lots of other things from another forum (xda-developers). Its a good resource for all that kind of stuff.

I went from 1.03 to 1.06 and it was like night and day. I now have 1.11 with the storage mod to give 27MB instead of 8mb.

I should be getting my MDA compact tomorrow from t-mobile, can you confirm that it isnt locked and that I would be able to install other ROMs on the device.

Thanks in advance

Its sim locked, but you can install other roms on it. If you try and install roms from a different country then you may get an error about the countryid being incorrect, however there are patched rom upgrade programs available.

Even thought the rom might be a different country code, they are usually still in English. You can tell as usually the rom name has WWE in the filename (World Wide English)
