Guest mwillett14 Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Lately I have been reading about all these home screens that use the e200 plugin. I live in the states and I have my phone through ATT but was wondering if I could just load the orange ROM on the device, would there be any ramifications, drawbacks? What would I need to do this? M23 Also in regards to homescreens, how many of you can break down code? I am trying to modify the OSX homescreen to use the scrolling appt. plugin as well as the task plugin. I have posted this same question in another forum: Take a peek if your up for it http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4099
Guest abatis Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 (edited) I have used the Orange ROM on my SMT and it will cause no harm. However, you will loose the 850 band if you are on or want to roam on Cingular in the US. There are ways around this since you have the SMt5600 with the ATT ROM. See this thread: http://www.mobismart.net/forums/Default.aspx?g=posts&m=696 You can pull the GSM bands off the SMT ROM and put them on the Orange ROM. It would be illegal to share, but I figure since the Orange ROM is available for download and the SMt5600 ROm is on the phone - OK for personal use. Make sure you make a copy of your original ROM so you can go back. Edited April 15, 2005 by abatis

I downloaded all the apps I need however I dont have a Mini SD card for the phone, I guess I need that before I proceed huh? im guessing the guide you sent me was a way to back up my current ROM in its entirety and also just the ATT GSM Band Info. If I am uderstanding this properly I guess I back everything up with the -all switch then I back up the the GSM Band info from the ATT/Cingular ROM. I then load the Orange ROM (where can I get my hands on this?) and then load the GSM Band Info over the Orange ROM. Am I understanding this correctly? If so I guess I would need to reference a guide on the entire process, I would imagine there are some out there however I cant find any, does anyone have any insight?
Guest abatis Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 That is basically it. Also look at this thread for the correct file sizes: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=201334&hl= You will need a mini SD. Make sure you turn off ActiveSync when you try to connect using TerraTerm. 1. Backup your entire SMT ROM on your minisd -all save on your PC via card reader 2. Extract -gsm to miniSD - just leave it on there. 3. Install the orange ROM using the regular installer. 3. Go into bootloader with the gsm miniSD in and it will install the SMT GSM. That is pretty much it.
Guest mwillett14 Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Cool I would ask you for more detail as all this is new to me but I guess I willgive it a try first, if something fails I know where to find you. One more thing, I am guessing the phone needs to be unlocked for all this happen? Also do you know where I can get the orange ROM? How do I get to the bootloader like you mention in step 3?
Guest abatis Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 A link to the ROM is found here: http://www.modaco.com/HTC_Typhoon_C500_SMT5600-t114964.html
