Guest psneddon Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 If you really want to keep as much of your main memory for ram instead of storage, here is some of the things I do. Try moving any non-rom .dll's from \windows to \storage\windows. After you move them search thought the registry and see if there are any places where the location is explicitly declared (.e.g. \windows\mydll.dll, if so change to the new path (e.g. \storage\windows\mydll.dll). If after you move the file you cant delete the copy in /windows then just rename it to something else (e.g. mydll.dll_old). After a soft reset you should be able to remove it. If you have any problems you can just reverse the actions. I managed to move all of the MMS software (3MB) and most of the Spb PocketPlus software out of main memory. I wouldnt bother trying this if your using an origonal Uk T-Mobile rom (1.03) as its so unstable. Sometimes it can take a bit of work as some dll's will have hardcoded paths. Also I only move dll's (or exe's) that are bigger then say 100kb. No point going through lots of work just to move a 10kb file. I'm going to create a customer install for some of the common software which does all this for you to make it easier. Any other tips? Paul
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Sweet !!! Can't wait for the program you put together ;) I try to keep as much on SD card but there are a few applications which still need to be re-installed after a hard reset so probably are sticking files all over RAM ..... Microsoft Voice Command Microsoft Reader Microsoft Visual Basic Runtimes Resco Explorer Resco Viewer Lexitionary Sprite Pocket Monitor Pocket Candy Journal Bar TomTom Navigator :D
Guest ctitanic Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 there is an easier way. A program called MemMaid that allow you to move dlls our of RAM to a new so called System folder. A same hack is used too in Tweaks2k2 but this one just move a few dlls while MemMaid give you the way to select all you want to try (no all dlls can be moved).
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Thanks !! Would the Trial version of MemMaid do the job ??
