some Gameboy games have .gba as an extension, same as some Gameboy Color games have .gbc as an extension

this is not the same as being able to play GBA games

as muff said, normal gameboy roms can also have the extension .gba. in other words - gnuboy can not emulate the gameboy advance.

smartphones on the market don't have the power to emulate the gba with its maximum of 133mhz.

in theory it will be possibile: gba's cpu is an ARM7@16Mhz I emulated with Morphgear demo a gba game in an old mips R4142@133Mhz

however, emulated gear is much slower

Yeah apparently for an emu to run smoothly it should be ran on a cpu that is ten times the speed, so on the latest 200mhz phones it would work fine...but it would be a lot of work to make or port and optimise for smartphone and also considering gba emulators are now officially illegal thanks to a nintendo patent, imho it will never happen.
