IR Turnoff / battery life

Received a reply from Motorola about turning off the IR beam, "the IR is only on when aligned with another working IR port, if they're not aligned it's off !!".

Seems strange that so many devices have the same problem after using IR, I might try an un-controlled experiment, my battery, after three days without charging [but turned off overnight] still had two bars,It's now fully charged, I'll activate the IR this morning and post a reply here.

That MIGHT be so on 2002, because there's no option to turn it off.

Hi,

Tried the experiment, transferred 3 Meg from my fully charged phone to my PC @ 07-30 am, and at 11-30 pm 16 hrs later still had four bars of battery left, so thats not the reason for the rapid discharge, I can only wait to try the origional IR transfer again which was from a C500 to my MPx200, should be tomorrow.

As an experiment.

Place some insulating tape over the IR port to block any chance of a signal gettin to it, then see what the battery is like.

OK, Last post on this one, transferred 3 Meg off a C500 to my Mpx which seemed to cause the problem in the first place, and that had NO effect on the battery life whatsoever.

I don't know what causes the sudden battery death, but it does'nt appear to be the IR.

Max.

P.S. Hi AWarner, the watering hole I use has no chance of getting a stray IR beam, most of the inhabitants don't know what a mobile device is ! !
