That message is misleading but could mean that you're trying to install Pocket PC software onto the phone which isn't compatible with Smartphones.

As this is unlikely to be the case I would assume that you haven't taken the application lock off. Click on the Quick Links link in my sig for the link & instructions.

You sure you aren't trying to run the pc installers on your phone?? (Try running the programs on your computer).

I have an Audiovox SMT 5600 which I understand to be (largely) identical to the Orange SPV C500.

According to File Manager Sytem Info, the O.S. is Windows CE, Version 4.21.

According to the Settings, About menu, I'm running Windows Mobile 2003, Second Edition, Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14257.2.0.0)

I downloaded a trial version of some software that said in the systsem requirements it would run on Windows Mobile 2003, Second Edition. When I tried to install it I received an error message that said "not intended for this device".

So . . . how do I know / find software for this device?

What's the filename that you are trying to open? Chances are, that must be a Win32 setup launcher. Should execute the file on the PC instead on the phone. ;)

Ok so now i've done a rom update on my C500 its now ver 4.1.1.4. It also says im running Wndows Mobile 2003 SE ver 4.21.1088. I have tried to register with orange for development software but all i get is IMEI number not found even tho my c500 says its registered. Have sent them an email but no reply yet and dont realy expect one.

But i still cant install things like homescreens, themeschanger. pocketcandy, etc on the fone. I get an error message saying... Installation failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have adequate system permissions.

So anyone know what i can do now?? Most of the files are CAB files that should be run direct from the fone.. some are windows installer progs that run from pc and then try to change the fone but still come up with same error. :x

Try this.

Send an email request to: [email protected]

Request for the Certificate Security Disabling tool. Provide name, mobile device, phone number, IMEI (via *#06#). State in a nice way that you need help with application unlocking your device. They normally reply with ttached tool specifically designed for your own device (IMEI specific).

Thats what I did and they were kind enough to send me the tool. ;)

I was trying to load Active Fusion software and Pocket Informant, both from the PocketGear.com site. Downloaded trial versions to desktop and initiated installation from desktop.

Near completion, both installers said check with your phone to see if you need to do anything there. Phone asked do you know who this software is from? I said Yes, OK (or whatever the accepting option was). Installation proceeded until on the desktop screen I got a message that the software wasn't intended for this device.

Active Fusion in particular said in its system requirements Windows Mobile Second Edition. Both softwares were recommended by one of the forums devoted to such stuff (Was it this one? I've looked at so many in the past few days, I don't remember where . . .)

Still wondering how I can tell in advance whether software is compatible with this phone. Would hate to have paid for this and then found it wouldn't install.

Hints?

PocketGear.com ?

Pocket Informant ?

Sounds like you've downloaded Pocket PC software.

That would explain why they won't install on your Smartphone.

I'm not sure if you tried mailing them again but I mailed the developers using the link on that page after getting the same thing as you. They promptly sent me a little app which unlocked the phone in the twinkling of an eye.
