MPX200 Unknown SIM Status

Newbie here....I have purchased a AT&T branded MPX200, but when I put in my ATT sim card I only get an error message "Unknown SIM status. (Error 131584)" This doesn't seem to be a SIM card or service issue, as I can swap the card back and forth and it works fine in my Motorola V180. This phone was updated to 2003 OS before I got it, and unlocked for 900 band (?). Have seen a lot of posts with similar issues and tried some small fixes, i.e the master reset and the folded paper for the sim card, to no avail...(the SIM card tabs are fine). At a loss and driving myself crazy!! Help! And Thanks for being here!

The phone will not be unlocked for the 900band as the AT&T MPX200 is only dual band. Only a few of the very first AT&T phones were triband by mistake.

SIM errors on 2003 are common and the only real solution most people have it to revert back to 2002.

Thanks for the response....if I can add some more history, the ATT phone support tech said the phone was probably branded or locked to another carrier...but this doesn't make sense to me as I don't get the screen asking for an unlock code. I will try to revert to 2002 OS, but I don't know how I will be able to do that as I can't get past the SIM failure screen, and can't ActiveSynch.

I am also wondering if it is making a difference that I am currently in a Cingular service area trying to initialize with an ATT SIM card. The AT&T tech insists it doesn't make a difference, especially since I am popping it in and out of my V180 and it is initializing fine, but I find myself wondering.....I mean the V180 and SIM were originally initialized in an ATT service area....??

Am I thinking about this too much, and should I just squish it with my really big boot and take another Xanax and relax on the porch with a MoonPie and a Crown an' Coke?

Unfortunately there is also no legal 2002 update for the MPX200 either.

If you do obtain a 2002 ROM you will find you do not need Activesync to

run the update.

Thanks again for the response...what do you think about the issue of initializing an ATT phone and SIM in a cingular coverage area?

The reason I ask and am so pesky, is if I can't get it to initialize on it's own I am going to send it back to where I bought it, instead of trying to downgrade the OS...

I don't want to do anything where I might get stuck with a non-working phone, especially if I help cause it.

It's best to send it back in my opinion, but regarding coverage I do not know the Cingular area but normally the error you are getting is linked to a bug in the update.
