Guest nimruth Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Sooo, I got it 3 days ago, wanted to upgrade to wm2003, used the proggie to upload it.. it froze, and told me a bad thing had happened.. The phone screen blinked on and off, then it went dead... Now it will not startup, no lights, bleep or welcome screen.. When USB cable is inserted, nothing happens, my computer doesn`t recognise it anymore, so the modem funkion cannot be activated... Is there any way to solve this.. the phone won`t startup, I guess the rom is screwed.. due to the bad flash.. but should be allright.. Is there some way to resolve this situation, as my mpx200 is reacting to nothing.. not the bluebutton boot and the leftkey boot, not any boot.. I mean.. am I now the proud owner of a expensive piece of plastic ?
Guest nimruth Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 I think you may have killed it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> damn.. is there really no way to get the thing into bootmode again ? I just cannot believe a bad flash renders your telephone useless.. there must be a way around it..
Guest hotphil Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 As I understand it, the flash memory is essentially the lowest-level accessible software on the device. If you've rendered it useless so that it won't even fire that up, then I fear it's dead. Hope you've got Orange Care.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Unfortunately flashing your phone with ilegal software voids any warranty you may have but you may be lucky in trying to exchange it if the phone was new. There is no official support for the 2003 ROM on the MPX200. If the phone is totally unresponsive then it's unlikely it is repairable.
Guest nimruth Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) yep, it is totally dead... no matter what I do or try .. nothing.. I mean, will they check a broken phone for the cause of the problem? My guess is that it will be thrown in a box for spareparts and I get a new one.. I`ll just say that it stopped all a once and have no clue what to do about it... The damn thing is 3 days old, so want a new one.. this shouldn`t be fatal to begin with.. phone with a selfdestruct.. now that`s a new one.. they should have plugged this hole.. Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 The damn thing is 3 days old, so want a new one.. this shouldn`t be fatal to begin with.. phone with a selfdestruct.. now that`s a new one.. they should have plugged this hole.. That is why you should not use ilegal software, it is not supported by motorola or the networks and it has not gone through any proper testing process, so you can not blame them for not plugging a hole that was not of their making. This problem is of your own doing so you can not really expect your network to supply you a replacement phone.
Guest hotphil Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Got to agree with awarner there, you broke the phone by attempting to use unauthorised software. The network are well within their rights not to repair/replace it, but you may get lucky.
Guest zingarosvg Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 (edited) I had something similar just happen to me with my MPX200--- It was running 2003 (had no problem installing that), and when I attempted to apply the GSM fix, it froze during the write....the next thing I know I get an unknown USB device message pop up and then the installation software gave me the "we are sorry" message. Any ideas or suggestions? --- UPDATE --- Well, I pulled the battery for a while, and lo and behold the phone started back up! Woo hoo! I called a buddy of mine who works for a wireless provider, and was told if the flash was toast, they have a loader they use to restore the original OS. Sooo...if you can find someone, not all hope is lost. Edited June 22, 2005 by zingarosvg
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Is the phone working normally and it's just a problem with Activsync you are having? It may be worth trying a hard reset, but sometimes removing the partnership in Activsync and creating a new one can help.
Guest MitchellO Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Yeah, try pulling the battery out for 12 hours. That will make the phone go completely flat. Then put the battery back in and see if you can get into the bootloader. If you can, there is hope. Then try reloading the ROM (preferably a correct,, supported one).
