I went to a couple of websites, like people told me. I read on the websites how to install the new home menus and backgrounds. I went, downloaded the files, put them in the 'storage\application data\home' directory and they don't work. Could someone walk/talk me through this, so that I can customize my cell please? Thanks!!

Copied from the FAQ at: http://webpages.charter.net/dchester/MPx220/ where you can find this and other pieces of Smartphone trivia.

There are three main components (and corresponding files) that make up the home screen: the Background Image (the picture), the Scheme (colors), and the Plugin text (the text on the home screen). The associated files for these are as follows: the background image is a .jpg file; the Scheme is a .scheme.xml file; and the Plugin text is contained in the .home.xml file. To select which home screen to use, go into Settings > Home Screen, and here you can select the Home screen layout (plugin text), Color scheme, or Background image. Also, "Default" can be selected for any of these as well (I'll explain later why you might do that).

There are two folders these files could be in, "\Windows" or in "\Storage\Application Data\Home". Any new ones you make should go into the second folder, because "\Windows" gets recreated at boot time (and anything you put in "\Windows" will be lost).

OK, here is the thing that can get confusing. The .scheme.xml file can specify which background image to use, but it only is significant if in Settings you have "Default" selected for the background image. Similarly, the .home.xml file can specify the scheme information and the background image. In the same fashion, the scheme information in the .home.xml file is only used if the scheme is set to default in Settings. To recap, the .home.xml file has the information for the plugin text, and can have the scheme & background image as well. The .scheme.xml file over rides the scheme (and background image) settings in the .home.xml file. The Background image specified in Settings will over ride what is in the .home.xml file, or the .scheme.xml file.

Actually, I went to your page, and I thought some of the TEXT layouts were neat. I couldn't download them. I right clicked and I had to copy the xml text and rename the file. Anywho, when you download packs like that, with the three files, do you have to RENAME them all?? to 'blah.shceme.xml' or pie.home.xml? Because the files that are coming up in the zip files that I'm downloading go something like this 'littlefilename.001' or some crap like that. Also, I went to your website, and downloaded some stuff from the frenchy site 'Le Monde Du' and those are the file names I'm coming up with. In the site it said change them to .rar files and unzip them, but all the files inside have odd names, EXCEPT the .xml file but I don't know if it's .scheme.xml, or the home.xml and that's only of the ones I could manage to UNZIP... The others said 'please insert final code or final disk to unzip' or some crap like that.

I downloaded your FOUR CORNERS text scheme, because I like it, but I just don't know how to get it to work. Do I HAVE to have that picture too? There were ALOT of kickass homescreens on those websites, but I just can't get them working.

I'm not a COMPLETE retard, I just need someone to hold my hand the first time I cross the street, ya know?

They didn't look like usable files at first, but the phone new what to do, so that's all that matters. Now I just gotta find the wicked cool ones I want ;) Or at least home they work!! Thanks again, and thanks Dchester for the DL sites.
