Guest hte Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Hi, I am on a plan that charges me based on how many kB of data i send and receive over GPRS. I want to know if msn messenger and agile messenger transmit any data when i am signed in but not sending or receiving messages. I would like to leave them on all the time if they do not. Thanks.
Guest squall Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 they do, but not a great amount. for example everytime someone signs in, and a ping signal to check you are still connected. however i understand there s a problem with the orange netwrok which results in the connection timing out after a couple of minutes anyway!

The connection does time out after a few minutes of inactivity though, so unless you can get round that you won't be able to leave your phone signed in all day.

Having said that mine is on "None" and so should stay connected constantly, but i have experienced the disconnection after a short period of idleness in msn but it doesn't disconnect everytime. Anyway, I hope this helps or is at least worth looking at.

Maybe the smartphone msn client doesn't send keepalive messages to the msn server, so it gets dropped...
