As the title says. I would have guessed that it does but I'm sure I read on here some where that it didn't. After being able to create my own tones from my cd's on my moto v600 I would hate to go back to normal polyphonic.

cheers

Great. WMA's are not a problem. Just been listening to some polyphonic tones that a friend had downloaded. They sound carp! compared to real music.

thanks.

WMAs are far better than MP3s anyway but, like you say either are far better than polyphonics!

With my old ROM my C500 could not play mp3 as ringtones but now it does after i installed the french ROM ,however the diference between .mp3 and.wma is to small to matter.

Since forever!

Most people have said that the UK ROM for the C500 will not play MP3's as ringtones (only WMA or WAVs) The only versions confirmed as playing MP3s as ringtones are those that have WMP10 which until recently was only the SMT5600 but the new french ROM with WMP10 also plays MP3s as ringtones.

Which ROM version do you have?

I dont have WMP10 - Mine was shipped with the current (4.1.1.4) Orange UK ROM.

And I can only use WAV or MP3 for tones other than ringtones (such as voicemail and SMS alerts) not WMA.

As for the difference - encode the WMA at 64Kb/s and that's comparable in quality to 128Kb/s MP3 but half the file size.

So you can't use MP3s as ringtones? Which is what everyone has been saying. The new ROM (when it is released in the UK) will let you use MP3s as ringtones.

Yes, I can. You are misreading what I said.

Ringtones - I can use MP3, WMA and WAV's (I use WMA's though due to size)

alert Tones - I can use MP3 and WAV's, but not WMA (I would have expected WMA support seeing as it's an MS powered phone!!)

It's a pain as I would have to re-code the WMA's to use them in order to use them as alert tones, but I would liked to have WMA's (on my storage card too!) and be able to assign them to alerts and ringtones. Maybe the newer rom release will allow me to do this (fingers crossed!!)

This is with the Orange 4.1.1.4 ROM which was supplied with the phone.

I was misreading, sorry. My phone is cream crackered at the mo so I can't try myself. Thanks for letting us know. I'll try as soon as I fix it (although I'll still user WMAs as they are smaller)

Just use winamp to convert the file to wav, normally only the fist 30 sec matter so the size is acceptable
