Anybody else come across this? My Audiovox 5600 that I bought through ATT recently crashed and wouldnt boot up. So I called to get it replaced under my ATT warranty but they referred me to Audiovox since its still under warranty through them. Well Audiovox replaced it with a deposit and $20 to cover shipping. They never asked what service I use. I have seen the Audiovox 5600 for sale at Cinguilair stores. So I was curious. I borrowed my girlfriends Cingulair SIM card to see if my theory was correct and I believe it was. I was able to do everything I needed including placing calls to my contacts. Glad I didnt pay the $40 to get it unlocked online since I am gonna switch to Cingulair this week.

I think AT&T Wireless and Cingular are now the same company... Cingular Wireless. To see if your phone is really unlocked, try with another SIM than AT&T or Cingular ;)

I have a question about the process to replace your phone. My phone won't boot up past the Windows Mobile screen. I have called Audiovox warranty who said I needed to send them the phone for evaluation. Did you do the same or did they just send you a new phone? If you did send it in, what was the turn around time?

Thanks.

They gave me two options. Either have me send it in wait for them to verify that it is a warranty issue and then repair or replace the phone. Or, they would ship me a new phone and charge me $300 +$20 (shipping) but refund the $300 after they receive my old phone. The $20 is nonrefundable but they do ship it UPS overnight and provide a prepaid shipping label to send it back.

Their phone number 1-800-229-1235 then hit options 1, 2, 3.

"All Audiovox Cellular Phones are warranteed for 12 months from date of purchase. If proof of purchase is not enclosed, Audiovox Service will determine by the manufacturer's date of the unit whether or not it will be covered under warranty."

Audiovox honors the warranty from date of manufacture unless proof of ourchase is provided.

You do not need to provide proof of date of purchase as the SMT-5600 has been available for less than a year.

Well, I have contacted Lockline insurance since I am paying for it. I have read in other forums that people have had their phone replaced that way. I have also read that they wouldn't replace the phone. After waiting two days for them to validate with ATT that I have service and have been paying for the phone, they now have no record of my original request. Lockline said that the phone isn't covered, but since AT&T (Cingular) signed me up for the insurance when I got the phone, they could do a one time complimentary replacement and cancel the insurance. But since the phone was purchased less than a year ago, I should go with the manufacturer warranty.

I then called the warranty department with Audiovox. The rep said that they can only repair the phone because they don't have replacement phones in stock (and don't know when they will get more). If they had some, they could charge me $319 + $20 for shipping and send me a new phone. When they recieved my old phone, they would refund the $319.

So I guess I am going to send in my phone and go without it for another week. I love my phone......I hate to go without it. Oh well.

As an update to my last post, I sent the phone in to UTStarcom for warranty repair on 4/28 via UPS ground. It was delivered on Wed, 5/4. They did not start looking at it until 5/10. Then it was sent back to me via UPS and I recieved it today (5/23).

So if you have to send your phone in for warranty repair, expect to go without it for a while. I would suggest buying a cheap phone on eBay to use while yours is out for repairs. I should have.
