Guest Matthew2K3MP5 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 so far this phone has been an absolute waste of money. 1) the mp3 player that i got the card for and everything sucks horses balls. depending on if the phone feels like it or not, it just may or may not suddenly drop the song midway, beginning , or a few seconds before the end and start the next song. 2) so moving onto the camera i thought i could use...yea, it sucks too. no matter how i play with it the pictures are typical junk for a phone camera - fine for a free or near free phone, but not for a 300 dollar phone. 3) call volume sucks. 4) ring tone volume other than the ones supplied, sucks. 5) im sick of having 2-4 bars and not being able to make a damn phone call. it just hangs there and either says unable to compelte call or just kicks back to the home screen. if you have two damn bars, out of what, five? connect me and quit bullshitting around. its really friggin annoying. 6) just to summarize: the mp3 player sucks, the calls dont always go through, the call volume sucks, and the camera isnt worth a damn. so why did i buy a thick, expensive phone exactly? sorry for the rant but im really pissed. anyone else this frustrated?

Guest i_oWn_u Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 shouldn't this be put into the mpx220 section?
Guest nikjensie Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Hmmmm.... either I'm really lucky or I'm not that picky... I was never looking for a camera substitute when buying this phone, so that doesn't bother me really. The in-call volume people have been complaining about... yes, it is a bit tricky to place the phone to your ear sometimes, cause it has to be in a certain angle, but after this week of using it, it's working great and I've never had the problem of not hearing the other person... even in very crowded areas. Although I have edited the registry for in-call volume. Basically, I love the phone, never any problems (so far) so I guess I was lucky... Best Regards Nik

What brand of miniSD are you using? A lot of people are having issues with the miniSD slot with the Cingular 1.03 ROM (some call it 1.30). There is an unbranded 1.25 ROM from Europe available out there that takes care of this problem. As far as the miniSD you are using, people are reporting issues with the SanDisk and RiDATA cards. The only card I have not seen a problem with is the pqi card. 2) The camera is not that bad. You have to remember that it is on a phone. I have seen some really nice daytime photos with it. I think the hardware is there, and the shutter speed needs to be quicker. Nighttime photos are a different story and not even worth it even with a flash. Some people that switched to the 1.25 unbranded ROM have said that the camera improved a bit. 3) The earpiece volume still needs to be addressed. 4) Have you played with your profiles? I know the ringtone volume on the "outdoor" profile is screaming loud. If you are using mp3's for ringtones, get a little free program called "mp3Gain" and it will allow you to raise the db level of the mp3. 5) I have no idea why you can't make calls with 2 bars. Another nice feature of the 1.25 ROM is that you have the ability to lock into a particular tower. With the Cingular branded ROM, you can not do this. 6) Work with the phone and do some research on it. It is actually a great phone once you learn how to tweak it. Motorola/Cingular plan on coming out with a new ROM next month that is supposed to clean up the remaining bugs with the phone.
Guest nikjensie Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 @drizze99 May I just ask... this 1.25 ROM, do you know if it includes Swedish in the language section? Best Regards Nik

Best Regards Nik <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No it does not, only English. You can however get the *.lng from a different ROM and replace the *.lng file in the 1.25.
Guest nikjensie Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Okay, thanks, good to know, now if only I could find someone with a swedish .lng file... Nik
Guest optikalsaint Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 (edited) 1) the mp3 player that i got the card for and everything sucks horses balls. depending on if the phone feels like it or not, it just may or may not suddenly drop the song midway, beginning , or a few seconds before the end and start the next song. from what i hear at work theyre thinking of bringing wmp10 to the phone as a free download. in the meantime the best way i found to listen to mp3s is through a headset since the speaker is kinda hollow. to be honest i dunno why anyone would listen to the mp3s through the speaker and not a headset anyways ;) also try downloading a different mp3/media player. i know i myself dont use the built in one. 2) so moving onto the camera i thought i could use...yea, it sucks too. no matter how i play with it the pictures are typical junk for a phone camera - fine for a free or near free phone, but not for a 300 dollar phone. ive found the camera to be great compared to other vga camera phones. its not up to par with other 1mp camera phones such as the sony ericson s710a but its still decent. the pictures also look a lot better when viewed on a computer instead of the tiny screen. 3) call volume sucks. this is why the phone was pulled off the shelves. expect a firmware update VERY soon. 4) ring tone volume other than the ones supplied, sucks. have you changed the ring tone volume in the profile settings? it makes a HUGE difference. so much of a difference that i now use the phone as my alarm clock in the morning and im a pretty heavy sleeper. also try listening to the ringtones you download on your pc before transfering them to the phone. from what you stated it sounds like the ring tone volume is fine, just the ringtones youre downloading suck. 5) im sick of having 2-4 bars and not being able to make a damn phone call. it just hangs there and either says unable to compelte call or just kicks back to the home screen. if you have two damn bars, out of what, five? connect me and quit bullshitting around. its really friggin annoying. this doesnt have anything to do with the phone, this has to do with your service area. some companies have better coverage than other and its best to do research before you sign a contract with one of them to find out which one will work best for you. as for me i live in a area with decent cingular coverage (my carrier) and i never drop below 4 bars and i have great call reception. all to often you hear people blame the phone when the truth is its where they use the phone that really matters. you cant get reception when you arent near or a tower or if youre low on bars and the tower capacity is full theres a chance you can drop a call. 6) just to summarize: the mp3 player sucks, the calls dont always go through, the call volume sucks, and the camera isnt worth a damn. so why did i buy a thick, expensive phone exactly? why did you buy this phone? sounds to me like you shoulda done your homework before you went and dropped $300 on it. Guest i_oWn_u Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 im feeling the mpx220 is kind of a poor phone. its not worth $400

It won't fix the camera, or the weak signal in your area, but the rest of the problems, particularly the mysteriously stopping playback, will likely go away. The ringtones issue may too. I had both these problems, and solved them this easily. No one knows why.
Guest SJ@MPx-220 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I also notice problem 5 with my phone. This phone has a serious bug as mentioned by Matthew. If you happens to roam into a blank spot area. The phone will lose its reception and won't be able to recover even when the network search is set to Automatic. A lot of time, the phone will display a pseudo signal strength which as mentioned won't let you make a call until the phone is rebooted. The problem won't exist if the coverage is good.
Guest AlbertoM Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 so far this phone has been an absolute waste of money. OK. Not for me. It has been worth every penny and then some. 1) the mp3 player that i got the card for and everything sucks horses balls. depending on if the phone feels like it or not, it just may or may not suddenly drop the song midway, beginning , or a few seconds before the end and start the next song. Ah. I use my IRiver for that. A phone is, well, a phone. I got this phone because I needed the Smartphone angle. Needed to synch with about 700 appointments and 1000 contatcs. It does that freakin' great. And voice dials! 2) so moving onto the camera i thought i could use...yea, it sucks too. no matter how i play with it the pictures are typical junk for a phone camera - fine for a free or near free phone, but not for a 300 dollar phone. Ah. Same thing as above. I use my Nikon Coolpict. Great camera! I have no idea why there isn't a version of the MPx220 without a camera. I have played with the camera, but why? 3) call volume sucks. I am half deaf in one ear and don't hear well on the other one. I had ATTWS .243 ROM and just flashed Cing 1.30. I keep the volume about 2/4 up. Does fine even in a noisy environment. 4) ring tone volume other than the ones supplied, sucks. Hm. See above. Noisy enough. Now, I keep mine on vibrate all the time, no need to disturb others. When it sits on my night table at night charging, I use outdoor profile, which tends to wake everyone in the house.... now, I have several guitar mid and wma by Tarrega that play very well....there IS a click before it starts, but that's OK. 5) im sick of having 2-4 bars and not being able to make a damn phone call. it just hangs there and either says unable to compelte call or just kicks back to the home screen. if you have two damn bars, out of what, five? connect me and quit bullshitting around. its really friggin annoying. Don't have that problem. One of the best RF that I ever had.... 6) just to summarize: the mp3 player sucks, the calls dont always go through, the call volume sucks, and the camera isnt worth a damn. so why did i buy a thick, expensive phone exactly? Good question. Did you buy it because it was the in thing to have, did you do research, did you really need a Smartphone? sorry for the rant but im really pissed. anyone else this frustrated? Not me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
