Guest pjam001 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Having previously set my heart on getting a c500 I'm now not too sure. It seems that more people on here are losing patience with the problems, especially dust issues. Having to get it replaced/repared is a pain and it seems Orange aren't replacing all of them, just the lucky few via next day. Even with the faults and a dusty screen, is it worth it? Should I be looking at others? I know similar questions have been asked before but wondered if people are changing their minds towards this phone. cheers
Guest squall Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 i think it is worth it, remember most members only post with there grumbles even now theres still no better phone for sale in the uk!
Guest pjam001 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 And I suppose it is alot cheaper to get hold of than some others.
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 You can get second-hand ones on eBay for around £50, or a new one free on a new contract. I'd suggest buying one on a 14-day return basis (I think most shops, and internet sites for UK suppliers do this). Try it out for a week and see what you think. If you don't like it just take it back (I'd recommend using an existing SIM, not the one supplied with the phone, otherwise you have to pay for a share of line rental and calls)
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I havnt had any dust problems, but there again I have case for mine, I knoe people dont like case's n that cos the phones look big and stuff but still it keeps it clean n dust free and when I take it out if the case the phone looks as its still brand new had the phone for about 5/6 months now about the only probs as it locking up on me (I though I must remember not over load it lol, I keep saying to my self "it may have windows on but its still a phone n not a home pc lol" ;) ) and the tss bug thingy but that dont bother me much I have heard it soo many times now I just ignore it lol and keep listening to my music :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 No case but no dust after 9 months or so. I'm not sure if I have the tss-problem or not....it doesn't bother me when listening to music. The C500 is the best phone on the market IMHO and, unless you're prepared to wait 3+ months and stump up £100+ (?) for a new model, then it's the only phone to go for. Go to shop and hold one in your hand. You'll love it ;)
Guest sSword Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 even with dust I think this fone rulez
Guest stugee Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I'm getting my third in 4 months!! Thge current 1 andf the previous one both had the dust on the screen problem. My warranty runs up 15th of June, this should give me enough time to get a replacement again if the fault arises!!!
Guest brykins Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Even with the faults and a dusty screen, is it worth it? I've only had mine for six weeks or so, but I don't use a case and it's normally in my pocket and I have no dust yet. Even if i does get some, I understand it's only really a problem when the screen is dark....in which case I'm not looking at the screen so won't notice it. The phone itself is far and away the very best phone I have owned and I really doubt that there is anything in the market at the moment that beats it for size, quality, functions and price....I paid £145 for mine - brand new with an Orange PAYG sim. Another £20 to unlock it....absolute bargain if you ask me. Yes - the C550 will be better if it has the larger screen - with a 240x320 screen you'll be in the land of "real" PocketPC applications. However - that's going to be expensive at first....for the price, I'd get the C500 now and plan on upgrading it in a year's time to the C550.
Guest bluesmudge Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 The phone is worth it becuase of the simple fact it kicks arses - im just questioning the build quality of the phone itself.
Guest jporch316 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 pjam001 I though you were getting the phone last saturday - have you changed your mind again!
Guest jporch316 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 bluesmudge where did you get those mobile phone images (especially the older models) - is there a website with retro images on - i cant even remember the make of some of the ones i had excellent
Guest brykins Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 (edited) is there a website with retro images on How about these: http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/Motorola.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/Nokia.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/Sony.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/Ericsson.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/Mitsubishi.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/siemens.htm http://www.handy-sammler.de/Sammlung/panasonic.htm As the site is in German, I can't actually navigate around it, so I am not sure if there is a menu of manufacturers anywhere...I just replaced the manufacturer name in the URL above...these were the ones I could think of that came up with pages. (EDIT) - found this: http://www.handy-sammler.de/sammlung.htm <- a whole menu! Edited April 19, 2005 by brykins
Guest pjam001 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Thanks for all the replies. Your convincing me again. jporch316, my contract was up but Orange wouldn't offer me a decent deal so I'm now waiting until the 27th when my 30 day notice will expire. This will mean I can get a new deal from an Orange shop and trade in an old phone, without any wasteful overlap in contracts. I'll have to get a new number but that doesn't bother me. As the 27th is next Wednesday it will be Saturday when I can get my new toy.
Guest jporch316 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Brykins Thats what Im talking about - Quality - only one i cant find is my old Phillips Pay as you go - I dont think Phillips make Mobiles any more Nice one
Guest BigAl94 Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Had mine 4 months, love everything about it - best call quality ever. No dust and no problems other than the paint coming off the joystick a bit but I can live with that.
Guest barrybryce Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I'm delighted with mine - wouldn't be without it. I haven't had any dust problems at all, and it's been much better than the previous smartphone efforts in every respect.
Guest i_oWn_u Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 i lost patience with my c500 and got rid of it ;) for all the people with no dust problems at all VERY LUCKY
Guest brykins Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Thats what Im talking about - Quality - only one i cant find is my old Phillips Pay as you go - I dont think Phillips make Mobiles any more Might find it at http://www.fkn.pl/telefony/telefony instead....
Guest vulcun1 Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Have mine for 5 months now and never had a dust problem, but I HATE the phone! ;) Am seriously considering replacing it with something else, just do not know what yet. Even though I still have 19 months of my contract left, I am prepared to sign a new contract, (and pay for both), but I have to get rid of this aggrevation!
Guest Seraphic Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I lost my patience with it, not because of the dust but because of the 'screen backlight not coming on when the handset is cold' problem a very small amount of users are getting. I sent it to HTC for repair and it came back with exactly the same problem so I returned it for a refund.
Guest Br1an_g Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 ive had mine about 6 months now.. only a few minor issues: freezes maybe every 2 weeks or so...no biggy. sticky 5 key, again, no biggy T9 order of words is just stupid. the phone itself is overall the best ive had... and add to that, i dropped it when i was on holiday onto a concrete floor and it held up with hardly a scratch. my nokia that i dropped fell to pieces:(
Guest yoos Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I've had three different smartphones and this one is awesome! almost perfect. I'd highly recommend it! I use a case and haven't had any dust problems...
Guest Seraphic Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Seems I can't get rid of it! Because Orange only do a refund within 14 days I've been forced to have a brand new one - not the end of the world of course but lets hope this one works as it should!
Guest Driekus Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 (edited) Hey Brykins, your old Nokia 6230 has a very odd shape... ;) Edited April 21, 2005 by Driekus
