Guest dougguk Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Hi all. I have tomtom mobile and a C500. Someone at work mentioned today that tomtom uses AGPS to get a fix - even tho I have the seperate bluetooth GPS unit. Is this the case? GPRS seems overpriced and I have no intention of using it to browse, etc. I want to actually disable it on my phone if at all possible to stop me accidently downloading or connecting to it. I have a PC for browsing the web! So does TomTom uses GPRS to help it get a fix? I thought I had already spent enough buying all the kit so last thing I want to do is spend more in GPRS costs whenever im using it! The software is great by the way if anyone is thinking of getting it!
Guest squall Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 no tomtom doesnt use gprs to get a fix, however the traffic plugin will use gprs if you subscribe to get traffic updates, which change your route if there are road works etc
Guest dougguk Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Cool. So there are no more costs applied if I dont use the traffic option - great! Its addictive driving around looking at stuff. Im sure the novelty will wear off soon - but finding the nearest mcdonalds is a cool feature!!
